A Place to Bury Strangers is a band that I should really love, but I just haven't been able to break into them yet. You a fan of Cold Cave, badchoices?

I do have Cold Cave - Cherish The Light Years and have enjoyed it so far. I feel I haven't given it enough listens yet because all of my vinyl is packed into my closet waiting on my ass to get new storage in the living room.
I do like them though, they seem like they would be rad live

Awesome. I just pulled that album out yesterday and remembered how much I liked it. Can you recommend a good A Place to Bury Strangers album to start with? I've given a couple a try but I don't think I really gave them the attention they deserved.

Whenever I end up recommending albums to people I usually will recommend whatever one I started with just because that is the course I took to form my opinion. With that in mind, I started out with Exploding Head. That is their second album (I believe) and that got me into them. *I am pretty sure that their most recent EP (Onwards Towards The Wall) has some different members (or maybe just minus someone). I am hoping to go to their show on Monday at the crocodile...but we will see if I can swing that on a work night

They need to tour together again so we can get stupid and grinny.

They need to tour together again so we can get stupid and grinny. That would be magic. Until then you should go to Russian Circles, ASIWYFA and Sandrider and get stupid whiplash from rocking so hard

When is that one? Russian Circles are still an opening band in my eyes, but a good opening band. I may check 'em out again if it doesn't fall under my Bonnaroo recovery schedule.

Guaranteed not. Sounders will be in Portland that afternoon as well. I'm sacrificing a lot of cool shit that Sunday for Paradiso.

A Place to Bury Strangers is a band that I should really love, but I just haven't been able to break into them yet. See them live if you can. They are fucking amazing. The genuine article when it comes to this type of music. Oliver Ackermann knows exactly what he's doing and puts on one hell of a show. Lots of bands that do the whole pop rock "noise" thing tend to suck serious shit, but this man controls the fuckin' noise like he's got Game Genie cheats on. The way he can send shit to precise places in the room to bounce back and come right through you and then criss cross it the other way is awesome. Vibration ballet. He's a major gear head on top of it and a super respected designer of pedals and effects (people from Wilco to U2 use his shit). He's also a studio engineer so the point I'm making here is that the man is not just tinkering with the noizes, he's owning that shit! Shoegaze, or what the fuck ever, music like this is obviously best heard cranked. However, just like super dope hip hop (DOOM, Madlib, Edan...) the really good shit is best heard in headphones first so you can soak up all the brilliant subtleties which separates them from the herd. Then crank that shit. Check out Exploding Head on some headphones dawg! Again, they are so fucking good live. LOUD!

Wish I could, mango, but I have to fly back too soon after . Someday I shall visit Lumpyland, someday. I swear I keep accidentally throwing emoticons in the most appropriate places. I'm getting all emoticons reading these posts.
