I was really sick these past five days and spent pretty much all of my waking hours confined to bed. I probably read the same paragraph in my book a total of 12 times a day before either conking out or going cross eyed so I spent the majority of my fevered awake time listening to some new albums. I probably heard each of these albums 4 times over front to back.
David Lynch - Crazy Clown Time Wilco - The Whole Love Atlas Sound - Parallax
The Whole Love is so amazing, wasn't until the second listen that I really picked up on a lot of subtle production and songwriting tricks that are present throughout the whole thing. I absolutely love this album. Parallax continues to get better and better with each listen. Solid album and it will join Wilco on my Top Albums of 2011 list.
However, Crazy Clown Time was perhaps the most enjoyable listening experience I've had in a long time. I can't quite explain what part of it resonated with me so much, but, man, did I ever buy into this album wholesale right from the first song. This is a perfect album, I love the way its identity, if you will, is revealed slowly over the first 6 tracks. Not that they are confusing, but I personally wasn't expecting the album to sound as accessible as it does. "Strange and Unproductive Thinking" just seemed to lift this thing into the mind pleasing orbit it had been climbing toward. I love that song. I even found myself getting out of my sick bed to dance and groove around my apartment with headphones turned all the way up.
I also had these two rolling through 3 or 4 times each,
Snowglobe - Little More Lived In David Bowie - Lodger

I wanna get sick so I can listen to Crazy Clown Time with a fever! Ha ha. It was the optimum time to hear it for sure. Like the National said, " I'm on a good mixture and I don't want to waste it" was my train of thought. I read some of the reviews the other day and I find it strange how almost all of them bring up the dumb point of "Is David Lynch really giving us or telling us anything different than he already has through his films?" What a stupid question to even think about. Had some one else done this album that question wouldn't even matter and I guarantee the reviews would be very favorable for both the quality of music or at least for how wonderfully strange and different it is compared to other releases this year. I'm still very blown away by how "in step with the times" the electronic component of the album feels. His vocal effects are on another level as well. Nothing was more pleasing to gradually build from Karen O singing, to Lynch's robotic self on "Good Day Today" and finally to getting to hear his less ed but some how even more whacked out voice on "So Glad". The pleasure centres in my brain had the ante raised by each successive track, especially Lynch's voice. Yowzahs, he did some magical things with his vocals on this album. The production overall on everything is fantastic. I don't think I've heard a more psychedelic album since the new Philistine Jr's album.

Currently going through my collection of Live at KEXP Volumes 1-4. Got all four CD's on ebay for $15.00. Such a great collection of songs. Now I just need to track down the last couple.

David Lynch - Crazy Clown Time
This album is great. It's sinister as fuck, creepy, trance inducing and highly enjoyable. I think that "Strange and Unproductive Thinking" is the best song that I've heard about relationships, thought and dentistry.

M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming (Never listened to anything by M83 before, but after the hype they've been getting on the board I figured it was time. Pretty good album and I agree with everyone that they would be a great band to see in an early evening set).
Dan Mangan - Oh Fortune Florence and the Machine - Ceremonials Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes We Are the City - In a Quiet World Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

These New Puritans - Hidden
Thanks, Know, for that suggestion. I'm going to listen to this album at least half a dozen times before the weekend. I'm only on the third song and already quite captivated.

And for my second Know recommendation of the day:
Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact
What an interesting album! There is so much going on in this record. I'm looking forward to spending time with both this and the TNP album.

I suggested them to fairowen and they made it on the list that he sent to AZ so hopefully they'll be playing Sasquatch.

Such a shame. I never would have checked them out based on their name. These New Puritans sounds like a shitty post-hardcore band too. Another name I would have stayed away from.

Are you digging Kanye or Jay-Z? If so, which albums? I used to listen to a load of hip-hop. I haven't been listening to much lately for some reason. I've always been into Kanye more than Jay-Z though. I think Jay-Z is the better rapper, but Kanye just has better songs all around.
