Did a lot of driving today, gave me a chance to bust out some old CDs. I've been in a very 90's mood the past two days. The Suburbs - Arcade Fire Soft Bulletin - Flaming Lips At War With The Mystics - Flaming Lips Sunday 8PM - Faithless Second Coming - Stone Roses Soul Mining - The The Transmissions from the Satellite Heart - Flaming Lips Pulp Fiction Soundtrack Saturation - Urge Overkill While at my parents house over Christmas I dug out some of my first CD's I'd ever bought when I was between 10-12ish (Courtesy of BMG Canada for like a buck and a ruined credit rating on my parents' behalf, whoops.) There were so so so so many more but here's what I was able to find. Some of this I still listen to alot on mp3, but it was nice to get 'em back on CD. Deep Blue Something - Home The Gandharvas - A Soap Bubble and Inertia Del Amitri - Twisted Barenaked Ladies - Gordon Bran Van 3000 - Glee Toad the Wet Sprocket - Dulcinea Fountains of Wayne - Fountains of Wayne Whale - We Care The Odds - Bedbugs Moxy Fruvous - Bargainville Sloan - Twice Removed Age of Electric - Ugly

That was a more successful find than when I went home for Christmas. I uncovered my Fastball-All the Pain Money Can Buy CD and other embarrassing miscellaneous pop nonsense, like the *Nsync CDs. Fail.

Cath, don't be that embarassed. While I did have cousins and parents with decent taste in music and their insane friend to expose me to things other children probably were not exposed to, all of that selection was a reuslt of me hearing them on the radio and Much Music.

Friendly--I also had an eclectic upbringing with music.
Most of my family roadtrip memories bring me back to reggae music. My father--the most awkward man you'll ever meet--has an odd fascination and obsession with the likes of UB40 and Bob Marley. I can't hear "Buffalo Soldier" or the cover of "(I Can't Help) Falling in Love with You" without thinking of my father's subjection to the tracks when I was a kid. As much as I resented it then, I love hearing those songs now
Something tells me he may have enjoyed his college years a little too much.

My dad enjoyed his College years so much that he did not go at all until he was 36. Oh, Dads.

Also in regards to my age comment it's crazy the cultural gap I feel to people like Peatrick (just your age buddy not you specifically) who is only 3 years or so younger than me. For instance my life is in boxes in my parents' shed, while his is on Youtube.

Not to say I'm cooler/more mature than you--I'm just preachin' that I associate more with peeps in the their late 20s and early 30s than my mid-20s counterparts. My life is also in boxes at my parents' house. They'll never be dug through either, because my ex-hippy father and my naive mother don't want to toss away their kid's memories. As for cultural gaps, I blame the internet.

Well put dude. There's a pretty huge generation gap that is the result of kids growing up with the internet and having Facebook since the time they were in grade school.

When do you DJ on WYEP, Catherine? Is it a weekly show kinda deal or just random?
I would say my life is 75% boxes, 25% Youtube.

I moved to Pitt from Atlanta a few months ago and the station was just looking for sub-hosts. Perhaps after a few more months I can snub a more permanent spot. I am on air roughly 4 times a month. It isn't as much as I'd like, but its certainly practice and the station is a perfect fit for me, so I can't complain! I always host the "Block Party" which is a classic rock/indie focused show. So, from 8-midnight, you'd hear the Soundgarden, Nirvana, types along with the newer stuff from New Pornos, Spoon, Andrew Bird, D. Projectors, Freelance Whales, etc. We also make sure to play at least one local band an hour, which is pretty sweet, I think. And if you wanna hear me/call in and request a song, I'll be on the 14th, 16th, and 23rd of this month :-) **Sorry for the shameless plug--I just figure it'd be music y'all would wanna hear!

The plug is only fair, I DID ask! Remind us when the 14th, 16th, and 23rd come to listen. So 8-midnight (11-3 for me) on those dates?

you picked the WRONG KID FriendlyD hehe EDIT: For those born in 1983 and those in 1986 there is a huge cultural gap because of Computers. The End. I thought my boxes in sheds and life on youtube sounded pretty awesome BTW. Pea, you were the only boarder whose age I knew for sure was 24. And whose life is ProShot on Youtube.

I also had those Bran Van 3000, Sloan and Barenaked Ladies albums ready to go! Actually it was Stunt, not Gordon, but same difference. Wish I had that Age of Electric album, and I'm pretty sure I owned Byzantium by Deep Blue Something but I haven't seen it in years. My mom probably sold it in a garage sale.
