The fact that this is sort of a rap-metal- Spawn-soundtrack kinda thing that came out in 2006 is kinda absurd in a fun way too. Sorry to interupt the ping pong match here, but it's funny you mention Spawn, because I don't recall it ever being mentioned in the history of the board. I was thinking about using that as my next Album of the Week nominee since I know several on this board would dig it, but I already used a compilation with my first suggestion. I don't even own the album anymore, it was stolen in college. Must find now.

The Spawn Soundtrack is the most perfect timecapsule for that sort of music.

The Spawn Soundtrack is the most perfect timecapsule for that sort ofmy ex-boyfriend's taste in music. For a sonically odd time in my life.

I had to force myself not to use a TooL album as my choice for album of the week, and yet here we are talking about TooL anyways. I love it.

They're like Primus with absolutely no sense of humor whatsoever.

Maynard's sense of humor lies squarely in the Puscifer project. Although at one time there was a great deal of humor in the way the band carried themselves in the media, just not so much in the music itself.

You talk about Maynard with the same authority and insight as I do when I talk about Les. I think that's cool.

Various - Marijuana Unknowns A collection (on green vinyl!) of vintage drug songs from the late 60's -- early 70's. There are nearly half a dozen songs on this record titled 'Mary Jane'. Lots of fun and pretty interesting. We also have this comp of vintage drug songs from the 20's and 30's with a bunch of Cab Calloway and stuff that sounds like Cab Calloway on it, called Reefer Madness. I get a real kick out of this kind of shit.

The two sides of the disc are designated "Side Mary" and "Side Jane" (instead of Side 1/Side 2 or Side A/Side B). How very R.E.M.

Cab Calloway is the man. Have you ever seen that wonderful Fleischer Betty Boop cartoon where Koko the Clown turns into a ghost and has Cab Calloway sing St. James Infirmary and do his sweet dance moves? That shit is fucked up. The background is amazing, with those ghosts and demons swirling around like some kind of primitive 3D. Cab's dancing was the best, I mentioned in another thread a while ago how similar Tom Waits moves like him in some old live videos. They have bodies like syrup.
Is the Cab song "Kicking the Gong Around"?

Yeah, that's one of them!
I fucking LOVE that Fleischer cartoon. I read that they animated right over actual footage of him dancing so that they could get it just right. One of the coolest pieces of animation ever.
