I really don't think that's the case. His persona is complete gibberish and they called him on it

Fair point. But I could have sent them an album with me just having reverby sounds with cool 80's drums and a cool name from a totally cool part of the world with a totally mysterious persona would have gotten at least a 6.2

that score is a fuck you.

no doubt. The score is clearly political and I'd probably give it more like a 5. His flow isn't terrible and his beats are decent but nearly every line makes me cringe. I understand that I'm not the target audience but the album as a whole is insulting. Rap is going through this awesome weirdo Renaissance and he has completely co-opted it and portrayed himself as the only person doing this shit when he has stolen his whole persona from other rappers.

more importantly, hashtag rap is the worst shit and needs to die a quick death

I think this sums up Pitchfork reviews quite nicely.

"Schreiber's semi-favorable review, which begins in earnest after a six-paragraph preamble comprising a long list of baroquely rendered, seemingly unrelated anecdotes peppered with obscure references"

yes yes yes yes yes

Change of Time is such a wonderful song. One of my favorites from 2010.

Guess it's appropriate to bring this back up:

The Black Keys album sounds exactly like every other Black Keys album to me...pretty average.

Although Little Black Submarines freaking rocks, great chune.

Man I don't know why I like it so much. Maybe I should revisit their other albums now.

Just watched a live stream of their album release. Much better performed live gents.
I like this new one better than Brothers. Brothers seemed to have a lot of filler for me. :/

The soundtrack for We Bought a Zoo comes out next week but Jonsi has two of the tracks ("Ævin Endar" and "Gathering Stories") available to listen to on his website.

When did Drake start sounding like Lil Wayne? Did he switch up his style for his sophmore album?

After giving the album a couple more listens, I realized it sounded like Weezy because he's developed a raspy voice since his last album (all the weed and cough syrup I'm sure), but his flow is not Lil Wayne, it's nearly an exact replica of Kanye West.

Has anyone else been diggin' this Lana Del Rey "Video Games"? I mean, yes, sure, it's very blatant 60's aesthetic and possibly she will turn out to be nothing more than an appropriation of Nanacy Sinatra and Nico but I really love this song.

So this should probably be in the New Albums for 2012 thread, but I've been meaning to listen to Lana Del Rey for a while since she's getting pimped hard by Pitch.fork. So I finally listened to those three songs she's released and watched the videos.

The song FD posted, Video Games, is easily the best, and frankly is the only compelling thing I've seen about her. It's actually a pretty good song. But the first thing I watched was the Born to Die video, and wow...has anyone seen that? It is laughable. The video might be redeemable if the song weren't so bad, but it just looks like factory-made bullshit from the beginning.

And then I read a couple of her interviews and read her bio and everything: her dad's a millionaire, she is signed on Interscope, and her name was chosen by her agents (she wanted to be in a band). Like, Lady Gaga is more organic than Lana Del Rey. I think any "indie" publication that pimps Lana Del Rey is not credible.

That's all.

Drew you had to go and dredge that post up, huh? Listen, that was back in September when I was practically just a little tiny baby. It was a different time okay? We didn't know any better, and even if we did "know the better" we probably still would've liked it because, you see, knowing now that we would make it all the way to December it's easy to say "how could've I ever liked that song", but you need to remember, and you'll need to use some imagination on this one, it was a different time. It's probably hard for you to imagine all the way here in December, but back in September man it was going down. Aliens, Atomic Winters, inflation, low carb diets, I mean, people started calling Chick Peas... Garbanzo beans for Christ's sake! You get the idea don't you? I'm sure you do, take special note of the Garbanzo bean part, that was the fucking tipping point. So forgive me, no forgive us for wanting a little music, a little fucking distraction in our possibly soon to be ending lives which you of the December children can't know, never mind imagine, forgive us for liking "Video Games"

Dope video too, eh?
