Debated going to the of Montreal New Years Eve show in Athens. Still debating it. Probably just gonna have a house show with a bunch of friend instead.

A New Years of Montreal show sounds absolutely insufferable.

So I've never checked out The Residents until today. Watched a couple live vids on youtube. The impression I got was that they are like a spooky, carnival version of Dead Can Dance. Is that a reasonable comparison or am I way off?

That's certainly not a description I would use, but I'm not going to go so far as to say it's a BAD description. I'm curious, which particular live vids were you watching that made you think that? Every tour has been so different.

I also wouldn't say that the Residents show in Portland is going to be 'mellow'. Beautiful, absolutely, but the evening will move from electronic atmospherics to spitting, screaming, foot-stomping barnburners and back so fast it'll give you whiplash.

Plus I'll be there, and I will be a madman. Truth be told, every time I've seen the Residents it's been with my Mormon father and I've been sober as a stone. I've seen The Residents at least once a year since 2008, the reason I'm so fucking excited about THIS one is that it's on home turf.

The other side of that is that none of you will enjoy the show as much as I do (not possible), and some of you might flat-out dislike or not get it. This is not my concern; some people don't like to watch Animal Collective perform, either. These people are fools.

I went a couple of years ago and it was decent. They played about 20 covers up until New Years then played a set of about 6 of Montreal songs after new years.

I still wish for the olden days of oM though.

Don't get me started.

'False Priest' was the last straw. He's not getting another dime out of me. I've absolutely hated every minute of the last five albums, I'm just not going to do it anymore. I don't want to encourage him, and I certainly don't want to be associated with or even in the vicinity of any of his fans. DONE.

Gang of Four - February 10th - Pittsburgh, at place called Club Cafe. Holds only 150.

I guess that means there will be room for only 146 fans.

Oh, trust me. I'm on the same page, here. The past few years I've basically just been forcing myself to like them since I love everything up through Aldhil's Arboretum so much. I think seeing of Montreal live is more "What silly entertaining things will they think up on stage while they play music that is at least better than a lot of pop music today." for me these days. And I've gotten even burnt out on that too. Only really debated going to the oM show in Athens because I have some friends that still really love them (and prefer the more dancy side to them) and think I still love them too. Oh Kevin Barnes, I try to like you, but you make it so difficult sometimes.

I really don't think it is at all better than a lot of pop music today, but I feel ya. I did the same thing for a while, but the last time I saw oM was on the Sunlandic tour and I've been 100% done ever since. I used to love them so much that I'm kind of embarrassed about it now.

I'd say I can't believe it's the same band, but it really isn't the same band.

The Residents will be in Seattle on Friday 3/18/11. I'll probably be at that show too.

Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary - 3/19, 3/21, 3/22. Fuckit, I might go for three. I've never been to Vancouver.

e: moot point, forgot Club Cafe is 21+. Man, fuck that.
