People who grew up with good music in their household have no idea how easy their musical journey has been.

Did your dad build the Autobahn?

He is more of a Man Machine, but there is plenty of Computer Love to go around.

My dad is kind of awesome. When I was 13 and just getting into music his is the record collection where I found Malkmus, My Bloody Valentine, Yo La Tengo, Built to Spill, Spiritualized, Sonic Youth, Sparklehorse, Grandaddy, Doves, Mudhoney, Iggy Pop, and countless other bands.

Am I your dad? I have been asleep at the wheel.

Musically, it was amazing. But it came at the cost of having no common musical ground with anyone in high school whatsoever. Everybody was listening to Zep, outside of the bizarro punker kids (who subsequently became my closest friends). I ended up heavy into Crass, Buzzcocks, X-Ray Spex, Propagandhi and the like for a good year because literally everybody else was listening to classic rock and had no interest in learning about why Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon were the greatest rock couple ever.

Yeah I legitimately cried when that happened. Making matters worse was that I ended up having to write an article about it for KEXP's music news blog. Fucking tore my heart up, man.

God damn man. Kraftwerk AND Crass? Why are you not sitting next to me right now enjoying these fine chops I have prepared?

Because I'm at work! But:

Oh, yes, totally like my dad! Oh wait... that was a bunch of hair metal and Scorpions.

I'm glad you didn't lump Scorpions in with those hair metal clowns.
