Juuust teasing. I've been waiting YEARS to see a weird Sufjan show, I'm so down.
Not the same thing. He's not pretending anything -- I mean, he's doing a Christmas tour. My comment was in reference to bands like Collective Soul who have an agenda but try to obfuscate it through euphemism and contemporary production trends. Sufjan's thing is that he is a cynic who can't help, for one reason or another, having a strong belief in Christianity, and his music tends to deal with trying to reconcile those beliefs as they relate to himself and his place in the world.
One of my favorite bands, the Sugarplastic, is fronted by a man named Ben Eshbach who is an unabashed Christian. His lyrics tend toward this weird combination of dada imagery and straight-forward hallelujahs. It's honest, and it's unique.

I hear you for sure, not trying to bust anyone's balls. No need to defend a dislike of Collective Soul. I just feel like what you said about Sufjan applies perfefctly to David Bazan who we were origingally talking about when the comment was made. Son of a preacher who was ostrisized from his family for being a skeptic. Most Pedro the Lion songs are about Christian hypocracy and fear mongering, yet he can't seem to escape the impossed guilt and self-hatred for being a "bad Christian".
Regardless, superstoked for Sufjan! A little worried that it's a Christmas Tour... I used to say that I hated Country music the most but Christmas music gives it a run for it's money. Something tells me Sufjan Christmas music will be a different story, though.
You don't have to worry about busting my balls. Feel free. Lord knows I bust my share of balls; I hope you know that when it happens to be your balls that I am busting it is only in the interest of egalitarianism. Keep that in mind when I start rampaging because you don't like Christmas music.
I guess I haven't listened to enough Pedro the Lion to really get his deal. Maybe it's emo bands that I have an aversion to.

Haha, touche on the emo remark. There's a reason Pedro the Lion was my favorite band during the height of my pubescent angst. It was never in my plans to see David Bazan ever again until I heard he would be playing Control in it's entirety in December, I've never heard him play my favorite song, A Mind of Her Own, and it's on that album so I have to go... but really, I don't care enough anymore to defend him.
And I really fucking hope you show me some Christmas music that doesn't give me a headache instantly. Talk about golly gee willikers... good God (no pun intended) if that shit doesn't get under my skin.

You also must understand his propensity to make sweeping statements about something and then just as quickly changing his mind.
