Yea I rounded out at 220 during my Warped/Ozzfest years. It really isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you're a big guy at a concert.

Haha shit. I bet the kids who caught both the SEA and PDX shows are kind of pissed about that.

Not pissed at all. The second show -- sorry to say this Souly, but I gotta -- was waaaay better than the first. For some reason, knowing exactly which song would be next enhanced my enjoyment and my overall appreciation for the set as a whole.

Other notes:

-The Crystal is much smaller than the Paramount, and more than half of their stage set-up was missing from the show in Portland. The top row of teeth and two of the arches apparently wouldn't fit on stage at the Crystal, so to make up for it they projected the visuals that would have been on those pieces of the set onto the ceiling. Also to make up for it, the band -- as far as I could tell -- lit themselves on fucking fire and performed the set as actual demons from hell.

-Finding the beat to 'Lion in a Coma' is literally impossible, which makes dancing to it NEARLY impossible. We managed, somehow.

-Micachu & the Shapes fucking suck. Sorry Drew. I wanted to slap Micachu when I thought she was a seventeen year old boy, and I still wanted to slap her when I realized she is a twenty-five year old woman. Fuck that shit.

-Highlight from the Seattle show: Monkey Riches
-Highlight from the Portland Show: Amanita

Holy shit dudes, it's been some kind of week. I am utterly exhausted. And I think I finally lost my little sunflower pipe once and for all. It's been a good ten years with that little fucker, may she rest in pieces and not be used by some random tweeker who found her on the bus probably.

Dudes, crowd-surfing was my jam!
Posted by XhornedXgrammaX on Sept 22, 2012, 3:27pm
I crowd-surfed at a Cake show. Anyone can crowd surf anywhere, as far as I'm concerned.
Posted by emptyfox on Sept 22, 2012, 3:29pm

First crowd-surf.

I've been groped at a concert, which is fairly similar as far as I can tell.

TO EVERYBODY - THIS IS NOT TRUE. MICACHU AND THE SHAPES ARE AWESOME ON ALBUM AND AWESOMER LIVE

Did Burrito at least like it? I loved their set.

Yeah I thought they were kinda lame too. Oh well.

The Shapes were great. Micachu filled me with rage.

Was it her sneering or her gender neutrality or her cockney accent...I'm guessing all of the above
Posted by XhornedXgrammaX on Sept 22, 2012, 11:39pm
The gender neutrality didn't bother me -- actually, I hated her less when I realized she was a woman because when I thought she was a seventeen year old boy I literally wanted to strangle her.

The sneering and the cockney accent, though, absolutely. Set my teeth on edge. I also wanted to meet her halfway and try to hate her at least as much as she seemed to hate me and everyone else. Also, as interesting as roughly half of the songs they played were (due entirely to the Shapes), the other half were abysmally boring.

Hey though, drew, we did get there in time to see them entirely based on your endorsement, so it doesn't mean that we don't love ya. I wanted to like 'em, even enjoyed their album when I listened to it. But that chick had the most godawful stage presence of anyone I think I've ever seen.

Does anyone know who DJ Dan is? I just met him, he's playing some little bar in Prince George. People say he's quite well known...

I definitely know who DJ Dan is... I remember listening to his stuff about 10 years ago. He's never been an A-list DJ but has been on the B-list for quite a while.

Whether this matters or not, part of why he's well known is that he publicly came out as gay a long time ago, back when the rave scene was deliberately ambiguous. It was a big deal at the time - nobody cares anymore though.
