Fucked Up is pretty different from lightning bolt. They're a hardcore punk band that appeals to hipsters for some reason.

Speaking of Fucked Up, is there new album any good? I haven't given it a listen yet, but I love their first album.

I have only listened to it a couple of times but I like it. I think Chemistry of Common Life is better. Then again, I probably should give David Comes To Life some more spins

Exactly.

In my mind, Lightning Bolt is hardcore punk of the 21st century.

That being said, I could see myself not liking Fucked Up and deeming it "retro bullshit". Or I will just fucking get high and party.

I just love that Lightning Bolt is the opener. Its like when I saw Deerhoof opening for of Montreal earlier this year, and the of Montreal fans got the fuck out of my way and let me freak out to the better band when I was peak stoned.

Hell yes dude, see you there!

Having seen Lightning Bolt play twice to small basement crowds, this should be interesting.

I've seen them at both a tiny dive in Charlotte, North Carolina as well as playing to a huge festival crowd, and both were insane sweaty mosh pits.

This is why we're friends.

I just noticed something...

Melvins are going to be doing their 50 states in 50 days thing later this year, but there's no Oregon date yet. Oregon is just listed as a ??? on their site right now. Their Seattle date is during Musicfest NW... so maybe they'll be playing one of the free Nike shows this year?

Schedule is out:

I'm liking it. The worst day is Saturday, which is the only day I have to miss (MMJ at Edgefield). Fucked Up playing David Comes To Life the night after King Khan shuts down the same venue is fucking rad.

What is ticketing like for MFNW? I think somebody mentioned that you can get single show tickets to insure entry before. Are there VIP tickets to get ahead of the lines?

Yes, you can buy tickets to some of the shows you want to see, especially at the Roseland and Crystal Ballroom (not at Dante's). A hard ticket guarantees you entrance, as does a VIP pass. They try to keep venue capacity short of actual capacity so VIPs and ticket holders can wander in at their leisure. The wristbands used to be really cheap ($40 or so), so there can be really long lines at certain locations (holy shit that Vampire Weekend line in 2010). Wednesday usually kicks off the festival at the Crystal Ballroom with very little competing acts, so having a ticket or VIP that night is nearly required unless you want to show up three hours early.

There are venues you need to cab back and forth to, but if you stay anywhere near the Roseland, 75% of the venues are within a fifteen minute walk.

Deerhunter + Godspeed + Animal Collective = it doesn't get much better for me. These are honestly my top 3 favorite festival-caliber acts.

Yeah, I am loving the lineup so far. I can't wait to see what the full offering is!

The free show that Flying Lotus played last year was awesome. It was at the Wonder Ballroom and it was hotter than any room I'd ever been in. Everyone was so disgustingly sweaty and hot, FlyLo commented that it was way hotter than he's used to in LA. In any case, the show was fantastic and the bike ride home felt amazing.

I think I might actually get a wristband this year.

Anybody?

I found they usually have VIP tickets available. I didn't see any info on what VIP gets you, but I assume if there is a line, this will get you to the front like similar festivals.

Edit: If I travel all that way, I don't want to get shut out of the artists I want to see.
