Topic Summary

*With the obvious possibility that it will not come out for several weeks. (See: Last year.)

Although Coachella is obviously not Sasquatch in many regards, (a) I'm getting into the "festival lineup excitement" that characterizes the first few months of the year for me (and many of you, I imagine), (b) there are some points of comparison between the festivals, and (c) I'm bored.

Disclaimer: In the past, there has been some overlap between the Coachella and Sasquatch lineups, but usually not with the big names. I think 2007 is the notable exception -- Bjork, The Arcade Fire, and Interpol all seem like big wins for both festivals. There are a few other overlapping anomalies too, but I think the Coachella lineup will give us a better idea of who is not likely to play Sasquatch than a point-for-point source of comparison.

And if you don't like my attempts to draw Sasquatch into this, whatever, let's just talk about the Coachella lineup (when it drops) in this thread.

OH and mods, keep up the good work.

EDIT: Here it is:

How many cross over acts were there last year? I count nine, but I could be missing a couple. Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, being the biggest one. I would think that at least a couple subheadliners are cross overs. I'm hoping for LCD and Arcade Fire, but I would bet that Vampire Weekend is going to be playing both.

Last year Sasquatch and Coachella shared:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
TV on the Radio
Murder City Devils
Airborne Toxic Event
M. Ward
Silversun Pickups
The Knux
Calexico
Fleet Foxes
Gaslight Anthem
Crystal Castles

Not a lot, but a decent amount.

Also Girl Talk and Blitzen Trapper.

So that works out to 13 shared acts. I counted 79 total musical acts last year so thats 16.5% of the line-up that was shared last year.

Damn. Well that's my fault for skimming the Coachella posters... good catches/comparisons, all.

That fake lineup would be great. Here's another fake making the rounds:

I totally agree with the feeling of "festival lineup excitement" and am really interested to see the Coachella lineup due to the likelihood of some crossover (and bands that can be ruled out). Also that fake line up (and a few others i have seen) would be absolutely amazing and I could only pray bands like Porcupine Tree, Mew and Owen Pallett will be included in Sasquatch this year.
Posted by Gruncle Stan on Jan 19, 2010, 2:21am
I believe Mew is in Denmark/Sweden type area around Sasquatch time.

I think you are right about mew (which hurts because I missed them when they came through in December, stupid finals). Owen Pallet has no dates confirmed after May 10th (I will be seeing him on the 9th in Vancouver so I won't be too disappointed if he is absent). Porcupine Tree is still open at the time of Sasquatch and is honestly one of the best live shows I have ever seen.

There's a rumor that Owen is stopping in May for a certain reason. ;D

I'd love to see him live, I've never had the chance yet and Heartland is fantastic.

I still haven't heard a Final Fantasy/Owen Pallett recording, but I've seen him twice -- and both times were excellent. The man is just ridiculously entertaining.

Yes, Heartland is fantastic. I have seen him live once before and yes, his live shows are also fantastic.

Whoever runs the Coachella site/announcement schedule (Goldenvoice?) is a comic genius: the lineup isn't out, but the forums are inaccessible.

Yeah, most places dont keep their forums ready for the amount of people wanting to stalk it to see the line-up "first". So they crash and I find the situation lol.
