Since you mentioned that you were missing a lot of Neil's mid-late 70's output I thought I put together as concise of a playlist as I could limit myself to of stuff that doesn't get a whole lot of mainstream Neil Young exposure from that period.
I kinda picked the chunes I Dr. Garbanzoured would be your "style". So obviously it's riddled with songs that you can draw straight and clear lines to Rhianna!
Enjoy.
I'll add more in depth Neil Young obsessivenesses in the near future.
Holy shit, thank you! I wish I wasn't working so I could check this out right meow, but Neil will be getting his fair share of play later this (tomorrow? No, this) afternoon!
NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE WILL MELT MY FUCKING MIND TONIGHT IN CALGARY!!!!!
I hope you have a blast.
Last couple of time I've seen Neil he's done quite a few things to blatantly fuck with the crowd and test their patience. We heard a lotta boos and saw people walking away but I think it's awsome and he always brings it around to a great payoff (Bonnaroo: Him and Buffalo Springfield jammed on one note for so long during "Rocking In The Free World" and did this little bit of repetitive choreography that almost everyone forgot they were in the middle of "RITFW". Some walked away and booed but those who went with it were thrilled to be jolted straight back into the raw energy of a classic anthem after getting lost in a good ten minutes of zaniness.) The last two times I saw him were at festivals (2010 and 2012) so that probably has something to do with it.
I can't believe people would boo. People that would boo Neil for being Neil, quite certainly have no idea what Neil is about; it only takes a brief look at his discography to understand he truly gives few fucks about anything other than himself.
I've seen him play literally every song from his greatest hits in one night, and I've seen him play not one song other than the latest album he's promoting. I've also seen him mix in a little of both, he literally just does what he wants.

Fact! i've been fortunate enough to catch Neil live 3 times, all at Bridge School. He is, most definitely, the best! Thank you Canada.
NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE MELTED MY FUCKING MIND LAST NIGHT IN CALGARY!!!!!
What an incredible performance. He opened with The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" blasting through the P.A. while the backdrop was uncovered (larger than life Fender Amps and a ridiculously large microphone!). From there, the entire place broke into "O' Canada" with the band on stage leading the song. GREAT OPENING!
He played a good batch of chunes from Psychedelic Pill and a smattering of Crazy Horse hits..."Love and Only Love", "Powderfinger", "Hey Hey, My My" and a scorching versions of "Cortez the Killer" and "Fuckin' Up". The true highlight though was when he cam back for the encore and did an electric version of "Helpless". It almost brought tears to my eyes.
"Walk Like a Giant" dissolved into a wall of feedback and distortion, simulating a massive thunderstorm while a sound byte from Woodstock played advising everyone to stay away from the towers. When the noise subsided, Neil played a solo version of "The Needle and the Damage Done". AMAZING.
I'm glad I finally had a chance to see this legend play. One more off of the bucket list.
God damnit why did I miss Neil? I want to cry. And my computer is being a boob and not allowing me to play FD's Neil mix fluently right now so I want to cry out of both eyeballs. Waaaaaah
