I'm surprised Battles is still playing venues under 1,000 capacity. That band should be much bigger. They are definitely the shit.

I don't "get" Battles.

Have you seen Battles live Pea? If not, I would bet you get it after you do. If you have, nevermind :)

Do I ever make declarative statements about music out of ignorance? Sure, sure, they were a tight group of musicians. But what the fuck, dude, what the fuck are they talking about? It's about as relevant to me as Sex Pistols lyrics.

Civil rights, spirituality, love, peace, rebellion, history to name a few.

I'm not trying to debate with you - but you and I clearly have a different interpretation of what reggae is all about. It's fine that you don't like it or even get it, but to cheapen reggae all the way down to a 'novelty act' just sounds like ignorance. It comes off like you haven't ever even given it much of a chance if you're going to raise such a naive question like, 'what are they talking about?'

Um, I know what he is talking about, I've heard the songs a million hundred times. Trust me, I put on some reggae now and then because it sets a mood. But I'm not gonna fucking take anything Bob Marley says seriously. Come on, I'm a white dude in the Pacific NW. Civil rights? Rebellion? History? Hang on while I change into my Che Guevara shirt, yo.

You're, like, the most uptight Jamaican dude in history. Real talk, Stampy, don't take a six month sabbatical and then come back all of a sudden with the 'mod errors' and slappin' the ignorant tag all willy-nilly. It is unbecoming. Seriously -- we made it through SEVENTEEN PAGES of a thread in which we are talking specifically about differences of opinion in regards to music without anyone getting their pubes twisted. This thread is a fucking historical landmark. Don't you fucking start calling me ignorant and naive about Bob Marley and the Fucking Wailers, like I'm some asshole who has only ever heard 'I Shot the Sheriff' on the oldies station. Give me a little more credit than that, dawg.

I for one, will always be thankful that Coachella brought Jimmy Cliff into my life. That dude is far superior to this Marley character.

Say whaaat? This band is mind blowing live, I've seen em 5 times and they never cease to amaze me... Do you at least "get" Ian Williams' stache? This guy makes THE BEST faces on stage.
Posted by Pea on Sept 29, 2012, 2:27pm
Eh. I've listened to their albums and I watched their Bonnaroo live stream. Not my thing.

Currently revisiting Gloss Drop and enjoying it much more than I remembered. I retract my statement.

Battles are the shit.
Fever Ray is the shit.
The Knife are the shit.
Zappa is the shit.
Vampire Weekend are the shit.
The national are the shit.
Otis Redding is the shit.
David Bowie is the shit.

I still think the Beatles is the answer here, but some people will never admit that.
