I don't think this has been done yet, and I know there are at least a few of us who will be interested in contributing, SO HERE WE GO! THE METAL THREAD.

Dr. Garbanzoure I'll start it off with a new album that has really grabbed my attention today. It's the newest solo offering from Ihsahn, the lead singer/guitarist from Emperor. I find it pretty funny that throughout my years of listening to and playing metal, I never really enjoyed a lot of black metal, yet Emperor's IX Equilibrium was one of the first extreme metal albums I ever purchased, and now when find myself returning to heavier music, that style is one that I'm enjoying more than anything else. Ihsahn's solo albums have always managed to maintain a lot of Emperor's classic sounds, but also dive into other more progressive and avant-garde sounds with some really beautiful melodies and clean vocals.

HG, I'm not sure why, but a lot of times during this album I kept thinking to myself that this might be something you could appreciate. If you can make it past the harsh vocals I think there is some stuff going on in it that is right up your alley. It's pretty long, but the it takes a turn for the weird about halfway through, and then the final 2 or so minutes is just a rollercoaster into the bizarre. I'm fucking in love with this album.

A plate I made and have been eating off of since 1998.

The food seems to rock extra hard when consumed off of this thing.

These guys started out Black Metal, but have been very experimental on their last couple of albums. The first song I posted was from their last album. The other two are from their upcoming album. The title track from their new album is very Black Metal. The other one is a little more like the psychedelic experimental sound they have had more recently. The last one is a Joy Division cover, and this is the only time I have heard such clean vocals from this band.

Yakuza! Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while. For a number of years Opeth would tour the states with some pretty eyebrow-raising openers. Yakuza opened for them the first time I ever saw them, and while they were pretty neat, that dude definitely looked pretty awkward doing his Kenny G thing up there.

I have only heard Yakuza - Of Seismic Consequence. I didn't realize they have been around for a while.

The last metal show that I went to was Red Fang @ The Highline. I know that is not death/black metal but they were fucking rad.

If you get a chance, check out Deafheaven - Roads to Judah. I had no idea who these guys were until they opened for Russian Circles last November and they absolutely destroyed

Pretty sure Red Fang opened the DEP/Mastodon show I saw last year. I think I was in the bar during their set though. I've heard great things!

Any Devin Townsend fans here? I don't think I've ever talked about him here, but he's one of my favorite musicians ever. Also, he's hilarious. If you guys haven't looked into any of his stuff you sexually should.
