Grinderman put on such an epic show when they came to the King Cat in Seattle. I am very jealous that you Coachella attendees get to see that! Fucking radical.

Yeah, I drove up from Portland for that show. They dominated, but the crowd sucked. No rock band wants to play in front of a bunch of people standing still, except the National. I never push my way to the front, but I seriously considered it that night. Nick Cave deserves at least a handful of people losing their shit when he performs. That was a movie theater crowd.

Yeah I felt the same way. I got down to Seattle later than I would have liked and was way in the back. I never push my way to the front either so I just stood there and was completely blown away. I always feel awkward when crowds act like that! Still a great show.

Warren Ellis had that violin making noises I've never heard from a violin. I'm pretty sure you need a gnarly beard to make a violin sound so dirty.

That show also stands out because of the worst opener I've ever seen. I've seen the theremin incorporated into several shows, and it's always fucking rad, but 25 minutes of a guy playing only the theremin before a rock show? Maybe that is why the crowd was so lame, they just woke up.

It just makes too much sense...

Let me add my support to wonk's urgent Nick Cave suggestion: anyone who goes to Coachella who doesn't watch the Bad Seeds is a fucking idiot and will be banned. Nick Cave is basically on the same level as Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen -- he is on a very short list of living legends. If you don't love Nick Cave, it is either because you have never listened to his music, or you are a reactionary snob.

I saw Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds at the Warfield in San Francisco in 2001. It was like visiting some half-insane witch doctor. He was wearing a forest green crushed velvet suit; he had roughly ten musicians onstage, and the music they produced sounded not so much like an ensemble but like a fucking stew of sounds. He stood in front of this nearly visible vortex of low-end noises and wailed and cackled and clutched at the sky in such extreme fashion that I stood there fully prepared to not be surprised when he was struck by lightning.

He doesn't play often. Do not miss it. At the very least, you'll be able to say you were there.

Anybody looking to get a taste of the Bad Seeds should get their hands on the God Is In The House DVD. So fucking bad ass!

They open with "Do You Love Me" and then go into "Oh My Lord". In both instances The Bad Seeds and Cave take the songs right out of the fucking stratosphere. As intense as music gets. Watch 'em.

"Do You Love Me"

"Oh My Lord"

I am such a reactionary snob. Everybody and my mom tells me to get into Cave, but I heard a song or two in high school and was like "whateva".

I'll watch the above videos when I'm not reading the board in the middle of band practice.

Haha no no. I meant today is a boring Sunday so I made that lineup graphic. Deleted it for clarity. Sunday at the polo fields will be BANGIN.
