However, to feed into the perpetual speculation, whoever runs Goldenvoice's Instagram account went on a "liking" spree of Daft Punk pictures the other day, including one of the supposed new album cover. So like, whatever.
Yea, I wouldn't expect any news from the organizer themselves, but they might know some advance information that will be coming directly from the source soon. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLLLLLEEEEE
It seems like there's one headliner every year that's just a guarantee and everyone knows it. Radiohead last year, Arcade Fire, The Killers...Daft Punk is this year's guarantee. I will be shocked if they don't headline.
I can't imagine this ever actually happening, but let's say Coachella would seriously do something as bizarre as foregoing meat for an entire 3-day, 90,000-person music festival - there's no way they'd do it for a sub-headlining act. Right?
Maybe I'm totally wrong here, but I just can't envision The Smiths having a large enough crowd in 2013 to realistically headline Coachella. I don't have anything against The Smiths - but were they ever that big of a deal in the United States? I know they still have a lot of diehard superfans, but I can't imagine The Smiths would have that much more of an appeal in America next year than Pulp or James or even Madness had last year.
I suppose they could headline, I just have a hard time believing the majority of the crowd would prefer The Smiths to whomever is playing in the Sahara Tent at that time.
Just seems like a bit of a gamble to me - giving up tasty, tasty flesh for a band that the majority of people there haven't ever even listened to nor give much of a shit about.
