Grew up in California and was out visiting my Grandmother for Christmas in Rochester, NY. My cousin bought me Crossroad. I did one of those pretend to like it smiles. It wasn't until about 5 years later that I truly embraced the JOVI. |

Ooh, this is fun! I definitely remember the first cassette I ever bought:

I was totally krossed out! I'm sure there were a couple other cassettes in there but my mom had the best cassette collection and so I didn't really buy that much. My first two CDs were:

and even better:

Oh fuck yeah that's the Space Jam soundtrack motherfuckers.
Then I just listened to this CD for about two years straight:

I did Columbia House and bought about 10 CDs that I ended up having to give back 'cause I never paid them. These included Everclear - So Much For The Afterglow, Third Eye Blind, Jewel - Pieces of You, Usher and some others that I can't really remember. I'm sure they were awesome though!

| Shit, weenie! The Space Jam soundtrack totally might have been one of my first 5 as well. I forgot all about that one! |

My mom bought me the Space Jam soundtrack early on early on as well, and that Batman Forever soundtrack. I love that you couldn't get enough of Seal, Pea. I don't blame you, 'Kiss from a Rose' was a dope track.
And Stamper, one of my friends had that Simpsons Sing the Blues CD. I would always wear it out every time I was at his house, to the point where he stopped hanging out with me because he was tired of doin' the Bartman constantly. Then I could never find my own copy and I was a sad burrito. |

| Haha that song was the only reason I bought the soundtrack. I fucking loved Seal for some reason. I didn't even realize until a couple of years ago that the likes of Massive Attack and The Flaming Lips were on it as well. |

| Qua-li-ty purchase. |

| While we're slightly going off-topic, my aunt bought me Will Smith's "Big Willie Style" for Christmas when I was 11. Her reasoning? "I know kids these days are into the hip-hop, so I wanted to get you something cool without a lot of swearing." Ohhhh family... |

Will Smith's entire marketing philosophy. |

Hopefully this counts as I bought them with my allowance money. I didn't "work" for them per se other than doing chores (I would've if I was legally allowed). Anyway, in order of buying them:

*Had to return the Everclear album once my parents read some of the lyrics. (Song titles like "Why I Don't Believe in God" probably didn't help either.) But then bought it again a couple years later when my parents stopped giving as much of a fuck. |

| It's funny that I bought a lot of the same first albums as people who are years younger than me. I blame being poor and not having a CD player until long after they were common. |

| Canada gets everything a few years later anyway, right? |

| Also I'm surprised how many of us have almost identical first 5's. My list isn't interesting at all because every single one of my 5 has already appeared in this thread. |

| I fucking idolized Rob Thomas when that first Matchbox 20 album came out. I just thought he was the raddest dude on earth for some reason. |
