I share pretty much the exact sentiments that you do, though I am slightly more open to modern Wayne and his freaky ideas. The AC is my only essential, assuming that Phish box is BIG.

Modern Wayne's ideas aren't freaky. They are unimaginative and tedious. He wouldn't be able to sell half of the shit he releases if Lips fans weren't such suckers for shit like gummy fetuses.

That list of collaborators says it all. He's going for this 'holy shit!' factor that is entirely on the surface. Flaming Lips and Yoko Ono? Huh, wonder what that'll sound like? And then when you hear it you're like, huh, yep. That sounds pretty much exactly like the Flaming Lips and Yoko Ono at the same time.

I personally loved the Neon Indian shit even though I don't particularly care for Neon Indian. The Prefuse 73 songs were pretty good, and I get very excited listening to Lightning Bolt collaborate with anybody.

Ugh. Not that I care much about Lightning Bolt, but that song they recorded together was one of the worst offenders. That was hardly even a song. Wayne just knows that his fans will eat it up if he talks explicitly about drugs.

Neon Indian can bite my nutsack.

DERP

"Coyne told MTV Hive that five or six blood-infused picture discs will be made to be purchased by 'interested rich Flaming Lips people,'..."

Fuck You!

Fucking stupid. Seriously, that is truly idiotic.

Gang of Four did this blood stunt a couple of years back, but putting it in the disc and specifying it's for the rich fans is too much.
Posted by LumpSquatch on Mar 27, 2012, 3:19pm
I know HEALTH did this once too. Definitely not anything new. Though making it "only for the rich" is.

It's stupid because Wayne seems entirely incapable of releasing anything these days that isn't tied to some ridiculous, unbelievably expensive gimmick.

We picked up the Heady Nuggs box on RSD last year; it contains all the Lips albums I really care about. And it cost like two hundred dollars or something. I'd need a really good reason to spend more than the standard amount on anything the Flaming Lips release in the future, and I'm sorry but having some of Neon Indian's blood in the disc isn't going to do it.

Even I will admit this is pretty fucking stupid.

They'd better spend those profits on inflatable bubbles for the rest of the band.

It's available through pre-order from Paul Simon's website too, but distribution isn't until June 5th. "Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition Vinyl – This audiophile edition is remastered on 180-gram 12" vinyl and includes an art-quality collectible Graceland poster and a download card with the full album plus three bonus tracks. It will be available beginning Saturday, April 21 at independent retailers worldwide participating in Record Store Day."
