I'll take 'Things Most People Never Get the Chance to Say in Life' for $600, Alex.

To be perfectly honest, I'm always so far behind everyone that I don't even realize what year an album was released. Number two, I suck at picking favorites.

That's generally my problem as well, and the reason that I only jumped on this bandwagon a couple days ago. This year is peculiar for the fact that most of my favorite (active) bands have released new material. On the whole, I don't listen to even a fraction as much 'new' music as most of you do. I listen to music that I haven't heard before, but nothing that's really current because frankly the trends in contemporary production set my teeth on edge.

I actually had the idea to make a thread of "top albums you listened to this year for the first time or that you listened to more this year than ever before, no matter what year it was released."

I probably will start that thread. For me, the Why? albums would be on there, as well as Sharon Van Etten's first album, and weirdly Wilco's Sky Blue Sky, which I didn't give the time of day when it came out for some ridiculous reason but I've fallen in love with in the last few months.

Nice! I graduated with a cumulative G.P.A of 3.19 ;)

Ongoing Favorites:

Purty Ring - Shrines
Frank Ocean - Channel Orange
Father John Misty - Fear Fun
The Tribe & Big Cats - Space
DIIV - Oshin
Casey Abrams - Casey Abrams
El-P - Cancer for Cure

Like.. American Idol Casey Abrams?

Like the Bass God? Yeah. Always liked his musicianship. His album is pure pop candy but I enjoy it a ton. Getting a chance to see him free on Sept. 7th.

Ha, I didn't realize these guys had any traction outside of Minneapolis. I haven't listened to that album yet but their live show is very very fun.

So jealous. But yeah I really enjoyed it, I highly suggest listening to it.

This new Four Tet is absolutely fucking gorgeous. Added.

Dude, I was just pooping that Four Tet at work. So damn good. Probably my favorite realease of the year as a matter of fact. I fucking love it. Add it to my list too, as well as:

Animal Collective - Centipede Hz
Dan Deacon - America
Doseone - G Is For Deep

Seriously dude. It's consistently brilliant the entire length of the album. I finally gave the new Dan Deacon a couple of listens yesterday and that one is a hell of a release as well. Four Tet, Animal Collective, and Dan Deacon have really spoiled us this late summer.

Four Tet got me into electronic music, and is still pretty much the only DJ who's albums I listen to on a regular basis. I can't say I'm surprised that he has outdone himself once again. I just wish I could get all of these tracks on vinyl without spending $10 a piece.

I thought he was going to be at Sasquatch this year, and since that didn't happen the logical progression is for it to happen next year instead.
