[quote author=andimac board=other thread=1652 post=111306 time=1335882103] Didn't you also not really enjoy many releases from 2011, wompwomp? What's yer deal mang??
Yeah I thought last year was pretty lame too. I think because 2010 was so insanely awesome, the last couple years have just seemed kind of lackluster to me
Yes, I meant disagree :s...woops. Just think, this year still has the likes of animal collective, grizzly bear, dirty projectors, twin shadow. The list goes on.
Listening to Emotionalism reminded me that the Avett Brothers have a new one coming out as well! New Silversun next week, too! I can't believe that fucker hasn't leaked yet.
However, I will say with the Phoenix and Gaslight Anthem albums due out this year; along with the rumored Daft Punk and YYY's albums....2012 could be a great fucking year.
Whoa! I'm only on my first listen of Kent's new album and I'm already in love with it. I totally lost track of them after their albm Isola. If you're unfamiliar with them, they're a a Swedish (indie? sure, whatever) rock band that churn out some pretty catchy chunes.
Yep. Alex Winston is going in, as well as the new Gossip. Holy shit the new Gossip!
Man. I'm not loving the new Gossip. Only listened to it once, but it just sounded...over-produced? Like not nearly as gritty as their last few albums.
It feels like they are trying to make a club scene/top 40 album as opposed to a sweaty, shitty beer hall dance party album. Too much synth! Not enough guitar and funky drum beats!

I'll have to give it a few more listens
I'm not much of a Gossip fan but wasn't this the big problem people had with the last album too?

Their last album was definitely tighter and a little produced, but it still sounded like it was made in a garage with a live band and it still sounds similar to what they were doing when they were "indie" or whatever.
The new album sounds like it was just Beth sitting in a studio. To me, it's just a radical departue from their sound. She still sounds great, but its definitely missing a lot of energy that came with the band behind her.

I think it makes sense. They have a huge following in Europe and I think it's changed they're style quite a bit. But, I see what you are saying Womp. There was a certain gritty, nasty, Olympia dive-bar appeal that made them unique. Beth doesn't take it to the crazy vocal level she use to. It's not my favorite Gossip album by a long shot but I dig it so far. Beth Ditto and Hannah Blilie can convince me to love just about anything.
Holy smokes I love Grimes so much. Visions is definitely on my list. I finally picked it up over the weekend and I haven't stopped listening to it. Amazing.
