Which hip hop albums were worth mentioning this year? The Throne, maybe Drake, maybe Lil B...? I liked Curren$y's album. I don't know, I guess I just don't listen to enough.
I thought of that after I mentioned it, but there are a couple I like enough to say, "I can't think of 48 albums I like better."
Travis Barker, The Throne, Big K.R.I.T, Random Axe, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil B, all might make my top 50, and I still need to listen to the new Roots and Freddie Gibbs.

As I may have mentioned early on in the evolving-list thread, you can't make a year-end summary list this year without having something OFWGKTA. If it isn't Goblin, it's Nostalgia. Ultra. But one of the two, certainly.
Fuck yes to Frank Ocean. Also really enjoyed Big K.R.I.T, Kendrick Lamar, and Danny Brown, but I have a lot to listen to before the end of the year. On a side note, what is the deal with Lil' B? Every time I bring him up the response I get is , "oh you just don't get it, you don't understand based music.." or what ever. You're right, I don't get it, because it doesn't sound like music to me, please explain. I realize you guys have probably already had this argument some where , but I missed it.
By the way, I'm guessing I'm the only one on the board who has listened to Travis Barker's new album? As far as enjoyable albums go, this is probably top ten for me.

If you're genuinely curious, listen to his album I'm Gay which is by far the most consistent thing he's done. Arguments about Lil B tend to devolve quickly because the people who love him REALLY love him and the people who hate him REALLY hate him. I find what he's doing to be pretty enjoyable but it takes a lot of work to sift through all the shit he puts out for the worthwhile stuff. If nothing else his beat selection has been stellar. His rapping style is unique and he's really good at what he does. Whether or not what he does has merit is a different question.

Shabazz Palaces put out the best hip hop record by a mile this year and may even be my favorite album of the year. So unreal. And their after party show at Pitchfork was hands down the best show I saw this year. And I saw some amazing shows this year.
Holy shit, I totally forgot about Shabazz Palaces as well, fuck.
Also Drew I'm not sure I understand what this means: Lil B : Rap :: Robert Pollard : Rock? And sampling things does not really excite me, it is just too fucking easy nowadays for it to be cool.
