Is she good enough? Discuss.

I was unaware that there were rules for this club. I thought it was age 27: ✓ ; famous: ✓; and you were in. Now I find out that drew is the bouncer to this club, stoppin people at the door, saying they ain't on the list and shit.

But in all seriousness, I only knew 2 songs by Winehouse, and I think she was more famous for being a drug addict than anything else. But I Can only name one song by Janis Joplin, and she is in this club. But I think she was included more because of the fact she slept with both Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix, and then died around the same time.

Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison and Jones are definitely the original members. They all came from the same era, and that fact is what made people notice it as a phenomenon.

The only other person widely included is Cobain, and I would argue that is simply because of his influence on the face of 90's rock. Winehouse will be forgotten IMO.

If you have heard her record, you would know that she will never be forgotten. If you have seen her live, you would never mention her name and the term 'forgotten' in the same paragraph.

Amy Winehouse was a tremendous artist and it is an immense tragedy that she died at twenty-seven.

Winehouse gets to be in Tier Two of the 27 Club which includes the guy from Minutemen, Pigpen, and the guy from Big Star. These are people who did something notable musically and then died at 27, but not Cobain notable. Tier Three are people who just happened to be both 27 and Musicians. Tier Four is the Mars Volta sound-manipulation guy.

So you're saying that you don't know that she will never be forgotten. Because you don't listen to pre-recorded music? Isn't that right? You FUCKING. FUCK.

I really like how the wikipedia page for '27 CLUB' has like 3 rappers listed, and under cause of death it just says 'shot'.

Yeah I think this is right. I think Winehouse's two albums are both pretty fucking stellar, actually, but she never had the type of social impact those other five artists had (though you can argue that Joplin and Morrison wouldn't be nearly as canonical if they'd lived past 27).

Remember when Jack White got in a bad car accident the night before his 28th birthday? He broke his pinkie finger or something, and he said later that he guessed he just wasn't good enough to join the 27 club. I would have included him in the top tier if he'd died.

Interestingly enough a local pizza place here, in honor of Amy Winehouse is selling all their wine for $0.27 a glass if you mention the tweet that announces this. Somebody's gettin' wine drunk today.

There are at least 3 pizza/wine places that have opened in Calgary in the last 2 years: Una, Famoso, and a third one that just opened on 8th ave that I don't recall the name of. Una replaced the Wicked Wedge on 17th ave which I loved; Una is a hipster douchebag hangout with overpriced pizza and wine. Famoso is actually pretty good; haven't tried the third yet.
