Pssh. Noise-based music is one of my primary interests.

The experimental noise-based music you listen to isn't remotely close the progressive noise the Mars Volta creates. It's like saying, "I like apples, so my opinion of oranges is valid."

I've even listened to the Mars Volta, even though I hated them. Between that Storm Thorgerson album art and Pitchfork -- back when I susceptible to Pitchfork's wiles -- I was talked into spending $18.99 on a copy of De-Loused in the Comatorium at Best Buy. I have rarely been so regretful of a purchase.

So you hated a show by a band you hate. What were you expecting?

Keep this going, this may segue well into my album of the week.

The 'progressive' noise that the Mars Volta make is, to me, similar to acts like Hank III or Fucked Up: they are the avatars of entire sub-genres of music that are only set apart from every other equally shitty act in their respective sub-genres because they have been sanctioned by Ryan Schreiber.

Contemporary country is for assholes, punk is dead and only meth heads can understand what passes for progressive rock after 2001.

I'm not sure exactly where you are going with the Pitchfork reference. Truth be told, I was already thinking about a comeback involving you and Pitchfork, since I know you're a loyal reader, and they HATE HATE HATE the Mars Volta. Whenever they review a Mars Volta album, they basically roll a dice, and divide that number by two.

Loyal reader? Hardly. I check in for info on tours and new releases, but I haven't read a review in ages.

I always disliked you a lot less than everyone tells you they think I do.
