Ah hell yeah, you gotta come!

Loved the thoughts you put forth on this album for sure, but no matter what I do or how hard I try, The Mars Volta is just not my thing. I couldn't get through the album. The non stop guitar wanking and noise painfully reminded me of having to sit though this...

to get to this...

Like I said, amazing and original introduction to an album with just as interesting of a concept, just not my bag.

At the time of that show, those were literally my least favorite and favorite shows ever back to back.

I think that Mars Volta show still holds up as the worst show I've ever seen in my life amd will probably stop me from ever listening to one of their songs again if I can help it, and generally I'm pretty open minded.

The Flaming Lips SUCK!!! FUCK YOU BUBBLE BOY! IT SAYS MOOPS!

Hey at least you tried right! I wouldn't take a stance on a band because of one set though, give some of their produced material try if you are open minded. Their release this year is one of my favorites for sure.

I was lurking this site off and on back when that set happened and I am pretty sure they created a lot of haters that day. Haha. I understand, it was weird and something was going on with them that day behind the scenes (no excuses just saying). I still thought that was fucking crazy. They were dicks for throwing shit at the crowd but Thomas Pridgen was a beast. Cedric was going way too fast for the band and they were trying to keep up with him when Goliath is already a fast song. That show was rad for me :)

I think I'm the only other person here who enjoyed that set. I was down in the pit and was just raging my ass off. We came back up and our group was sitting there with their fingers in their ears.

Haha, I wish I was in the pit. I was on one of the tiers raging with my (then girlfriend) wife and all of the people sitting around us looked at us like we were aliens

Sorry, but yeah, the Mars Volta set at Sasquatch is the worst show I've ever seen by a huge margin. I support all this, but you'd have to tie me to a chair to make me listen to a live album from them. Can't/won't.

Blacksmile- It appears we were standing quite close to eachother for the Mars Volta/Flaming Lips.

Seriously, fuck that spoiled little bitch Cedric. After dodging his multiple loogies, watching him stomp a camera man's face and roll around on stage shrieking like a douche bag, I just about had it and nearly retreated to the hill. I stuck it out and Wayne pulled me gently out of that nightmare, thank god.

The Mars Volta totally harshed my fucking mellow, man. But I totally liked your write up for it.

Thank you! I hope one day they will be able to redeem themselves. I will drive with ropes and chair to Portland in case I see HG and then we can have a listening party ;)

We'll tie each other to chairs and you'll get a faceful of the Residents in return. Fair's fair.

That sounds really fun actually! I will keep my Residents cherry un-popped until that happens

Residential cherry-popping is happening in P-town in just a couple weeks. I'm putting together an informal presentation for the Burritos for when they're down for the Animal Collective show. You'll notice my Now Playing lists have been pretty single-minded -- that's why. Gotta represent.

Are you in that pic somewhere or do you just remember that view?

As awful and excruciating as it was, I was some how drawn into Mars Volta's performance. I'm not saying I liked it, but I just couldn't look away. Maybe that's their secret power!
