I'm kind of resigned to not seeing U2. Going to see U2 would involve giving money to Bono and I don't know if I could do that, even if I did get to hear "All I Want is You".
It still amazes me that so many people actually want to see U2. There is just so much douche going on in that band I dont know where to begin.
Not to mention I feel like the entire world is trying to cram them down my throat. Even though I dont hate them, every time someone says they are one of the best bands in the world (and then cites their populairity, as if I care about that) I cringe a little.
I've seen both U2 (twice) and Metallica. U2 live is on a completely different level from any concert I have ever seen, aside from maybe the Stones. Fan or not (I am a pretty big fan), you should definitely try and check them out. It is a complete spectacle.
Hearing Where the Streets Have No Name live for the first time was one of the most incredible concert experiences I have ever had.
I'm not the biggest Metallica fan, but I am certainly glad I saw them. Put on a really great show.
There was a time when U2 were undisputed kings. I don't remember how old you are, davers, but it's possible that you just weren't conscious of that period of their career. From The Unforgettable Fire until (arguably) Achtung Baby, they were basically the equivalent of Radiohead.
That's a great comparison. Metallica are the U2 of the metal world. Both acts put on mind-blowing performances. Sure there are as many haters for each band as there are fans - but the simple fact is... the shows each band put on are ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.
I concede that Bono is a bit of douche - damn humanitarian! - and I recognize their music today isn't nearly as good as it once was... however, that aside, every show they put on even now - the majority of their setlist consists of the best songs from their first 6 studio albums (Boy, October, War, Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby)
I saw Metallica when I was 14 and it is still one of the most boring shows I've been to. Maybe it was because I was in a skybox or something, but they just stood there and played instruments. Even the openers, Godsmack had fireworks and shit!
It still amazes me that so many people actually want to see U2.
Bono is a douche, but I used to love U2. If I could go see them play stuff from Achtung Baby, The Joshua Tree, or Rattle and Hum it would make me cry and it would just be the best thing.
