Probably wouldn't be that good of an album to start with, since it sounds so much different than all their other material. But it's good, go for it.

This would be THE Opeth album for you to start with.

Haha glad we agree there...

The tracks that have been released from the new Mastodon are pretty good.

Yeah it would for HG probably. I would say listen to Damnation before Heritage.

I'm just gonna wait for the whole album to come out before I give any of the songs a listen. I've heard really good things so far.

I would say Blackwater Park before all. That album is fucking epic.

I'm not against working backwards from a suitable starting point. That little exchange there pretty much guarantees that Heritage is going to be my entry point to Opeth.

Blackwater Park is their best for sure, but I don't know if HG would be able to get into the growls.
Posted by Cysquatch on Sept 14, 2011, 10:26pm
Yeah the growls throw some people off, but if you listen to a song like Bleak in it's entirety you can hear the true beauty that Opeth has to offer.

Opeth's growls are special compared to other bands that use them. They really add to the atmosphere of the songs.

It never ceases to amuse me how well people around here have my taste pegged. Seriously, at this point I think Gunther could tell whether or not I'd like an album better than I could.
I guess my work on this planet is done.

Metals is amazing. Absolutely gorgeous through and through. I'm really surprised by all the detractors on this one, it's like they thought Feist was Colbie Caillat or something.
The recording and production are pure magic. It reminds me of albums like On the Beach and In an Areoplane Over the Sea where all the magic, dynamics, and extra punches that usually occur during post were captured live by the musicians during recording.
I swear, if this album had different cover art (which I think looks cool) people would hear it in a total different light. Every goddamn review talks about the music painting a "cold bare landscape like the one shown on the cover", idiots (obligatory "You're a cold bare landscape" to the bullshit reviewers). This is better than The Reminder in the sense that it is exactly how you want an artist to grow and sound between albums. Both are great but different and both totally sound like a Feist album.
"Why Feist no make the same album?????" - every review
I am so excited to see her in a few weeks!

That is so true, seriously every review took the exact same angle on the album. I've only gave it a few spins, but I really dig it so far. |
