As most of you know, Record Store Day is upon us, this Saturday - celebrating all that is magical about independent music stores. With that comes many band's (often rare) vinyl contributions to this annual event. I'm particularly looking forward to picking up Heady Nuggs, the box set of the first 5 Flaming Lips' Warner Bros. albums. What are you looking forward to scoring?

If I wasn't so poor I would totally get that FLAMING FUCKING LIPS box set. Looks amazing.

I'll be down there to pick up the new Paul Simon record, and if I'm lucky enough to get my hands on one of those Lips box sets I'd consider it if it isn't like $500. Other than that, I'll be looking around for a copy of that Built to Spill 7" (their cover of the Dead's "Ripple" -- awesome!). And there's a Pinback 7" as well. Oh, and Gorillaz' The Fall is being released that day too.

I entered a raffle to win one of the limited edition copies of Tomboy, maybe I'll get lucky.

Dude, right?

Is the vinyl a studio cut? I've only heard it live before.

I really don't know. I assumed it was a studio recording, but now I realize I have no information to back that up. I'll take it either way, really.

Oh and apparently its a picture disc.

I hope Edmonton gets that. Same with Phish's Two Soundchecks.

"Ripple" is a live recording from North Carolina, according to my neighbor Dug.

Looking at hopefully getting:

Foo Dr. Garbanzohters - Medium Rare
Mastodon - Live at the Aragon
Urge Overkill - "EfDr. Garbanzoy" 7 Inch
Pearl Jam - VS.
Fucked Up - David's Town

I really want the My Morning Jacket re-issues, but at a limited edition cap of 400 my chances are slim.

This is my first year hunting for records on Record Store Day. I was wondering if anyone knows what I should expect in terms of pricing. Are the releases more expensive since they are limited numbers or do the prices carry the average price tag for vinyl?

I was wondering the same thing, I have never done this before. We are going to get up early and go check shit out.

I do know that the Heady Nuggs box is priced at $125, which is incredibly decent.
