Wait, you've never listened to Tom Waits either?

MAN WHAT DA HELL ARE YOU DOIN?

Just popped in Bone Machine for the first time in forever it seems. Dirt in the Ground...oh man I forgot how beautiful that song is.

Burrito, get a good set of headphones and crank the fuck up "Going Out West". Have your mind blown, why don't ya.

I'd actually be really interested in your thoughts on that song. That low dirty evil production on the guitars is some kinda wonderful on your ears.

Nahh, we can't discover them all on our own. That's what places like this are for. Hell, I hadn't ever listened to more than 30 seconds of Bjork in my lifetime before the Burrito showed up and gave me a million reasons to bring her into my life.

Noise-punk/rock and long-form ambient, mostly.

It's not that I've never listened to Tom Waits. What I meant is that, like Nick Cave, he is a dude who I know to be legendary, but ignorantly dismissed in my youth in favor of weirder stuff. Yes, believe it or not, there is weirder stuff.

I've just got a lot on my plate and sometimes I try to forget just how large the load is. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to to enjoy the Residents and my own ambient pieces that I've been working on as thoroughly as I have been lately.

What I'm trying to say is get out of my head all of you voices.

Holy cow, dude, I had no idea. Miles of smiles across my face right meow.

You're totally right; my post was more an expression of incredulity than criticism. Like, I just assumed that Bone Machine was one of Burrito's favorite albums by default.

Have you guys heard of this dude Merzbow? Fucking legendary shit.

He is largely responsible for why I have yet to give Tom Waits the time of day.

Dude, that discography is fucking intimidating.

Hehe, yeah. As far as I know, Merzbow and Sun Ra are in competition for the largest discographies in history, which has a good deal to do with why I like 'em both so much.

My entry point was Animal Magnetism circa 2003, but that's really just because I got into Merz in 2003. His output is all over the damn place, but I feel like a lot of work from his "laptop era" of 2000-present could be appreciated by the most open-minded of EDM fans. Have you heard Wolfgang Voigt's project: Gas? Merz uses a lot of the same style of underlying ambient techno beats, and then layers them with all kinds of crazy awesome noisy sounds from homemade instruments, endless effects pedals, chickens, etc. In the last few years he has reintroduced a drum kit into his work, which for me is the icing on the cake.
