Topic Summary

So my 2.5 year old son is becoming quite the music fan and even has a bit of a CD collection under his belt already. He has They Might Be Giants - ABC's, Science and 123's, Raffi, a slew of Rockabye Baby discs and a couple of other kids comps. He is also a fan of current music such as Keane, R.E.M., Pearl Jam and Dinosaur Jr.

Anyways, as good as those kids albums are, my wife and I can only listen to them 100 times over before they get slightly repetitive...

Just wondering if anybody out there can recommend some other good and unique childrens music.

I like Jack Johnson's Curious George Soundtrack but I don't know if that is something you'd be interested in.

That JJ album is a homerun as far as the topic is concerned. I would say his whole catalog is very kid friendly. Nanner pancakes, nuff said.

Oh and if you really wanna have the coolest kid on the block while also teaching them good hygiene...

If you look in the 'A Record a Day' thread, there are a couple pieces I've written about some of my favorite children's records. Harry Nilsson's The Point! is incredibly great; also Duplex's Ablum! and I think a few others are in there too.

I'm a big fan of children's music.

Hooray for raising your kids on TMBG!! I will second those two above that HG suggested, they are wonderful.

GREAT! Wasn't expecting the repsonse to be this quick and strong. Thank you for the recommendations and I will look into these when I get home from work.

I love TMBG kids stuff, as does my son. I think we've watched the DVD's for Science and 123's at least 50 times. "I Never Go to Work" and "Number 2" are amazing!

Not much for JJ but it will be good for the kids.

HG, I will look for that post about kid's music in the other thread.

Ha, prepare to lose quite a bit of time. Hands down best thread.

Another great one referenced in the Record a Day thread is the Dimension Mix.

They Might Be Giants have a fourth children's record as well; it's not released by Disney so it's not overtly educational. It's called 'No' and it's among their better late-period records.

You might also just get some of their early records that AREN'T children's records; Lincoln, Flood and the self-titled record can be very appealing to kids under ten; take it from a TMBG fan of 23 years.

Seconded by another fan of that long.

I already have Flood and A Users Guide but I will check out the others for sure.

No accounting for taste, my young ones enjoy Tim Mcgraw and the Mamma Mia soundtrack. I blame their mother :)

YIKES! Not my thing but thanks for the recommendations.

So I ordered Duplex's Ablum! and the Dimension Mix from Amazon. Have no idea what they sound like but they were cheap and I Dr. Garbanzoured what the hell. I'll take my chances. Will also look at picking up TMBG NO! this weekend.

Finally, checked out JJ's Curious George Soundtrack and it's a nice album...the kid's should enjoy that one as well.

I am so psyched on your behalf for having those albums on the way. Hopefully you like them! :)
