Catherine and I would love to go festival crazy this year - but logistically and jobwise, it's just not possible. Therefore, there will be no Sasquatch for us in 2012... even though, I prefer the Sasquatch lineup to Bonnaroo's.
Man, in addition to the weather, I've never been impressed by Bonnaroo's lineups. This festival just isn't for me, through and through. The idea of Radiohead possibly playing a 3 hour set, however, is very alluring.
"We danced to bands with tens of thousands of other people. Sang along to songs we knew and more we didn’t. In the darkness, hundreds of glowsticks streaked the air like tracer shots in war. Giant inflatables bounced over dozens of light sabers pointed skyward. Stuffed animals impaled on sticks danced above the hot crowds, puppeted by someone just given ecstasy by a friend made seconds before. A man wore a dildo helmet wrapped in Christmas lights. Bass made the ground vibrate. There was noise everywhere, and at all times."
Someone on here did a pro/con writeup of the fest and I'm going to try do one in response to that, because I have a bit of a different, more positive perspective. I've only been twice, but if anyone has questions I can try answer them.
I like the lineup, but a lot of what I like is also already at Sasquatch. I guess because I'm on inforoo all the time, there wasn't a ton of surprises there. Looking really nice though, and I've only scanned through it twice. I surprisingly know most of the names, which is something that normally doesn't happen for me at Roo when the lineup drops. Bonnarooooooo!
Headlining sets from Phish and Radiohead? Oh man, Bonnaroo is gonna float off the earth come June.
Decent lineup, but I'm actually more excited for Sasquatch. The Gorge set up is so fuckin' unbeatable, and this is comin' from a guy who believed Bonnaroo was The Promise Land for many years. Sasquatch 2011 was probably the best festival I've been to, and I've seen plenty of them in the last 10 years. It was by no means the best lineup I've seen, but the overall experience could not be beat. No festival I have ever been to has ever felt like both a festival and vacation as much as Sasquatch.
All y'all headin' to Bonnaroo will have a blast for sure. Just as long as you can stand the heat!
