I need to get on it. I've been thoroughly enjoying everything I've heard since the lineup came out. I've always owned their greatest hits, and for some strange reason bought their newest album a couple of years ago, but the rest of their catalog is just really damn solid and surprising.

It's definitely one of those albums where you should give yourself time to listen to the whole thing front to back. It's amazing how well crafted it is as a total listening experience. Hope you like it, dude!

I read blacksmile's list on my phone before I had time to reply, but I agree. I haven't listened to this album in six months, but I can safely say it's the first time since 1995 I have gone six months without listening to it. And of course I'm putting it on now.

I feel the same way. I have no idea what it is that sets this band apart but I fucking love it. Solid from start to finish.
The beauty about it this time is that my four year old son picked it out because it has a zebra on the cover!

"Stars" hit the airwaves and I was sold. I remember purchasing the album in Fremont, CA from a Warehouse Records (went out of style faster than Blockbuster). Following the first listen I was absolutely hooked and have been evr since. Love Downward Is Heavenward nearly as much. Have been and will continue to be obsessed with Hum.

"Stars" was my gateway as well. I've had the same copy since it came out in, what, '94? The book is chewed up a bit, but after hundreds of listens it still sounds the same as when I bought it. Fuck those people that say cd's have a limited shelf life.
Yes, I've listened to Downward Is Heavenward at least 13 times, but every time I hear it, I want to listen to the Astronaut album.
My two minutes of wiki research yielded a very confusing question. What does "post" actually mean? I've always considered it to mean "mellow/ambient." My opinion of Hum has always been, "there's some pretty heavy riffs, like metal riffs, but the lead singer has the laziest voice in music." So maybe post-hardcore is accurate for this band?
How many albums feature the band name and album name in their lyrics? Tough quiz, I know.
God, that name sounds so silly. What's a good album and song to check out? I've always heard good things about them but their name (which is stupid to judge a band on but also totally 100% justified at the same time!) always makes me think of early 2000's emo bands like Boy Hits Car or something.

Boy Hits Car is emo? Fuck, I thought I never liked an emo band before now.
