Radar Bros. - And the Surrounding Mountains
The Residents - Commercial Album
Zach Hill - Face Tat
Polaris - Music From the Adventures of Pete & Pete
Death Grips - No Love Deep Web

That Death Grips sounds exactly the way the cover art would lead one to believe it might sound. Shit is fuckin' bonkers. And Face Tat -- if anyone wants to know what I'm talkin' about, Face Tat is what I'm talkin' about.

Glad to hear you talkin' 'bout Face Tat, Gramma, 'cause I definitely be talkin' 'bout Mark of the Mole. It takes some cojones to double down on Zach Hill albums, but if you're really feeling froggy you should check out his 8-minute epic 'Astrological Straits' (from the album of the same title) featuring Mr. Les Claypool slappin' da bass as he likes to do.

If you're digging Zach 100% in control of his own destiny, I recommend taking a step back from here and visiting his first (and arguably best) solo endeavors: Hella's Church Gone Wild, and the Holy Smokes' Masculine Drugs and Tallk to Your Kids About Gangs. These albums are the holy trinity for me. Church Gone Wild is Hella playing Zach Hill songs at Hella's peak in 2005. The Holy Smokes are his first extensive collaborative albums, and feature just as many weird-ass dudes as his "solo" albums do. Check it.

That bygones EP is the most out of place work in Zach's discography. I highly recommend the full length bygones album by-, which sounds nothing like that EP if you can imagine, but beware -- bygones is Zach with the guitarist from everyone's favorite Tera Melos! They work too well together.

I totally forgot that you had given me that record until I finally got around to shelving all the LPs I pulled out during Animal Collective week and found it. I am wicked forgetful. I spaced on that copy of Subterranean Modern that badchoices found for me until yesterday, too, if that tells you anything.

You mentioned that Face Tat isn't necessarily the best entry point for Zach Hill; if there's a better one, I gotta know what it is because that shit is so totally my bag that it is ridiculous.

I added a paragraph to my above post. Check it.

But if I was recommending a starting point I would have to say the predecessor to Church Gone Wild, The Devil Isn't Red. It's where they first get brown as fuck. There's even a standout track called 'Brown Metal'.

Then probably Team Sleep, and then The Ladies -- which I am well aware of your fondness for, and then the holy trinity.

Hella - Tripper
Deerhoof - Breakup Song
Black Dice - Cone Toaster
Black Dice - Repo
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
Maserati - VII
Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun
Deerhoof - Offend Maggie
Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes

Side 2 of the new Godspeed is fucking jaw droppingly phenomenal.

I have been getting downright religious with Repo lately. There are so many unique subtleties, even for a Black Dice record. And the 20-page art book that came with it definitely takes the cake for funniest collages I eva seen. It would be a pretty fucked up cake, naturally.

To truly understand Zach one must consume 18 cups of coffee daily.

I'm not exaggerating that Dr. Garbanzoure, either. Dude fucking loves his coffee.
