Wooden Wand & the Vanishing Voice - The Flood

Is this worth tracking down? I've heard James & the Quiet and Second Attention but haven't delved much deeper into Wooden Wand's stuff.

Eh. It's pretty good. Not very focused. There's one song on there that I really love -- Dogpaddlin' Home to Live With My Lord -- but it sounds absolutely nothing like the rest of the record. Sometimes I put that album on and really dig it; sometimes it annoys the shit out of me. Mostly I just pull it out sometimes because it's one of those records that corresponds with a moment.

I think J.J. Toth is a wanker. I tried and, to varying degrees, failed to get into a couple of other Wooden Wand albums. If I was going to recommend a Wooden Wand album, it'd be The Flood. But that's not to say I would recommend a Wooden Wand album.

I like James & the Quiet a fair bit but I pretty much agree with you about Toth. The records I have heard (I've heard a couple others, just don't remember which) have all be incredibly hit or miss. There's always a few great songs but incredibly unfocused otherwise.

*Allow me to ammend this statement with a holy fucking shit.

They closed out the weekend with 'Sanity' when we saw them. I had no idea Phish could get so damn brown.

I totally had a dream last night that I was at a Phish concert with wonk and HG, and the whole time I kept thinking to myself, "why the fuck am I at a Phish concert?"

Neil Peart was on drums though so that was cool.
