The Money Store on vinyl is fucking sick. I don't know why I never heard this shit before but I am so into it.

Are you coming around to Tomboy, my dude? Or do I need to bring my 4-disc box set with me this weekend (complete with instrumentals and acapellas and that rad jam from the cassette tape)?

I forgot Tomboy was a thing.

Tomboy has automatically fallen into the category of records to be played after 3:00am and before 10:30am, in keeping with my rule regarding maximum restrictions for BPM during the witching hours. It's pleasant; it's not amazing. I don't think it would hold up to much closer scrutiny than it already gets from me -- teasing out the individual elements by paying too close attention to the individual components would probably cause it to fall apart.

Whaaat? Y'all are crazy. Tomboy puts me into this wonderful, celestrial trance. It's definitely a bit dark and lonely but even with the heavy guitar/synth processing it has this sweet lightness about it.

Eh, Tomboy has it's good qualities, but mostly it just sounds like a version of Person Pitch that took him about half as long to make. Half of the songs sound like half of the other songs. Panda's not super-great at building drones.

Different strokes. I can totally dig on the Panda drone, specifically, Slowmotion and Benefica. I prefer Percussion Panda hands down and Person Pitch was a perfect fucking album that played to his strengths. I just like that Tomboy sounds like he locked himself in a basement and never came out until it was complete. Then again, I'd probably argue with any statement that begins with "Panda's not super-great at..."

I think that he's the least talented of the four. He's an amazing drummer, he's got a beautiful voice. But Avey brings the aggression, Deakin brings the weird and Geologist brings the Eno. Those are the things I like most about Animal Collective. Panda's a little, like, golly gee willikers for my taste.
