Man...I am not into spending an arm and a leg to see living legends waaay past their prime, just for the sake of being able to say I've seen them. Paul was pretty embarrassing to watch at the Olympics. No thank you.

Would I sit through two hours of Paul McCartney's post-millennial output so that I could sing along to the chorus of 'Hey Jude' during the encore?

Fuck. Probably.

Just found out Sloan is playing two sets tomorrow, the first will be Twice Removed in its entirety and the second will be made up of their hits. This makes me very happy.

Anyone else in Vancouver gonna see 'em? Davers you'll still be in the middle of bumfuck nowhere right?

Currently en route to bumfuck nowhere actually. Won't be back for at least a couple weeks.

I wouldn't pay an assload to see Paul but nosebleeds are like $40 which is pretty reasonable to do what HG said. I've paid more than that for shows that probably ended up meaning a lot less to me.

On October 11th, Mr. Alexis Gideon will be premiering his new stop-motion animated rock opera FLOATING OCEANS at the Hollywood Theater here in Portland.

This is going to be a wonderful and unique experience. Nobody alive does anything even remotely similar to what Alexis Gideon does. To summarize briefly (although words could never do it justice), he creates these long-form compositions that include elements of hip-hop, ambient and prog/experimental rock which he uses to tell strange and elaborate stories. The performance is a one-man show, with just the man himself employing guitars and loop pedals and other instruments as he re-creates the music -- which is perfectly synced with the animations (also done by Mr. Gideon) as they are projected on a screen behind him.

The music is incredible. The animation is beautiful. And watching him bring these visions, these intricate and profound labors of love, to life one after the other has been one of the most exciting things I have ever found in all my years of seeking out music.

Stormy and I had the ridiculous privilege of seeing the final performance of the original Video Musics in 2009. In 2010, we were very lucky to see the premiere of Video Musics II: Sun Wu-Kong at a gallery here in Portland, and then the final performance of that same piece at the Confucius Institute at Portland State University. Those of you have been in our home have seen hanging on the walls some of the hand-drawn animation cells from Wu-Kong, which we purchased from Mr. Gideon himself.

In short, this is going to fucking ridiculous. Anyone who lives in town, I just plain CAN NOT urge strongly enough that you check this out. Those of you who DON'T live in Portland: come to Portland. This man is a force of nature, a one-of-a-kind talent.

Here is a link to the trailer for Video Musics III: Floating Oceans:

and here is the piece that I wrote in the Record a Day thread about the original Video Musics:

http://sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index....48&page=2#14953

Trust me on this one.

Second McCartney show just got added in Edmonton. Tickets on sale at noon.

Sounds like the regular on sale sold out in about 30 seconds this morning. Crazy.
