Although the keyboardist was involved in many on stage antics, it wasn't him who they lit on fire tonight, just an extra. The dude ran away from the first guy trying to smother out the flames, and by the time they put him out ten seconds later, there appeared to me genuine concern that he was alright. Probably just part of the show, but you never know if the extra was wasted and stayed on fire longer than was planned.

I have a lot of weird, sometimes entertaining thoughts going through my head when I see a band live, so here is my thought on Man Man tonight.
If there was a contest involving any band willing to pack five people in a 92' Volvo with one of those small Uhaul trailer hitched boxes in tow, and all of their gear has to fit in those tiny confines, and they had to play a show in Albuquerque, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle, all in one week, and they were rated on entertainment value by Internet nerds who review shows, who would beat Man Man?

I have no idea what that means, and I've honestly never listened to Man Man, but my good buddy saw them the other night and had the time of his life.
Sooo basically.....

Phantogram was pretty stellar last night.
They are touring with a drummer now and they sounded freaking awesome. Played a couple new chunes that sounded great as well.
I got pretty drunk and awkwardly attempted to seduce the singer. She's real purdy. Good times.

Stamper tried flirting with her while getting an autograph when they blew through Pittsburgh last year. She had a pretty stale personality. She's pretty, yeah, but not much going on upstairs. Oh well, I guess you can't have it all.
And the dude isn't so bad looking either. Just sayin'.

Pea, you should check out Man Man. I seem to recall you being a Tom Waits fan? Yeah, that's pretty much the only pre-requisite.

Just means they don't need lights, props, and fancy gimmicks to put on great show. Just give them 15 instruments, most of which work, gas money, and some couches to sleep on, and they'll tear it up. I could have just said that, but what fun is that?

Man Man is definitely one of my favorite live shows. In Philly back in 07 I saw them open for Modest Mouse but had no idea who they were. I was talking to the Honus Honus for a good 15 minutes about Modest Mouse, thinking he was just some random guy.
And then the drummer came riding up to their uhual trailer on a bike, looking as if he was drunk and some homeless guy turned to us and said "Dat nigga look like mick jagger".

I got to hang out with Huron Huron and the crew backstage at the Pitchfork fest a few years ago. They were brand new and as big of fanboys as me.
The only part of their set that I always remember is them filling a metal bowl with some water and a bunch of cutlery and somehow using that as an instrument.

Stop it people, you're making me need Man Man.
(Also, everyone, as I've mentioned before, should check out Icy Demons, side project of Pow Wow (drummer). They're kinda like Man Man, but different.)

Pow Pow was also in a band called Whales & Cops with an ex-girlfriend of mine. Did I mention that last time you mentioned Icy Demons, or did I just think it?
Anyway, Whales & Cops are good. And the first Icy Demons record is pretty rad too.
