plane tickets from Atlanta to San Fran are super cheap - if i could find a relatively affordable hotel within a reasonable distance from the Park, I might consider it.

I'd really like to see the Shins at least one time in my life.

One time I saw the Shins. Halloween, 2003, free in-store performance at the dearly missed Music Millennium in NW Portland. This was about two weeks before Chutes Too Narrow came out; they were young and not quite yet successful and having lots and LOTS of fun. Got cockblocked at Squatch '06 and didn't get to see them, and haven't had another opportunity since. No show I see, if I ever do see them again, would be as good as the one I saw but if I had the dough it would be well spent flying to San Francisco to see them at Outside Lands.

San Francisco is beautiful, Pea. Just one of the coolest, weirdest cities in the world. It is also filthy and terrifying, but for all its similarities to Seattle it's benign nature always shows through in a way that Seattle just can't muster. It's also a great music city, one of the best. I couldn't have lived in the proximity of a more exciting music scene than San Francisco growing up, I was really lucky in that regard. Not only does EVERY act pass through San Francisco, but they frequently kick out all possible jams for San Francisco crowds. There's a lot of the culture and history of rock music behind the walls and in the floorboards of San Francisco and artists always seem to really tap into that. Worth a trip for any reason at all, ever.

Once I went to San Francisco and stood in front of the Fillmore all day. Oh yeah and I paid to use a bathroom in Wendy's. Beautiful city.

I think I am seriously considering this. I have wanted to see the Shins for a long time. Hell, one of my wife's (she's hot) favorite bands is Muse so I might be able to convince her.

I don't know if the layout would be very enjoyable though. If you get stuck in the back you are pretty much screwed.

Like the spot the person was standing when they took this picture:
