We were just talking about that! While the Grammy's do this with someone each year (see Imogen Heap) this one is pretty funny. We were thinking it's because they were heavily involved in some pretty huge hip-hop this year. Maybe it brought them to the attention of some Grammy voting types who wouldn't have otherwise known of them? I sincerely doubt thete's Grammy voters on the lawn at 'squatch.

Maybe because the new album is on a major label? Do they even acknowledge independent releases?

"To be eligible for Best New Artist, an artist has to have simply never won a Grammy before, have released at least one album (but not more than three), and have not been entered for Best New Artist more than three times (even as a member of a group)." Weird.

More importantly, how are Mumford and Sons still getting nominations from an album that came out in 09?!?!??!?!

The cave was released as a single in late 2010 so it still qualifies according to grammy rules for some reason.

One - the Grammys are meaningless.

Two - they Dr. Garbanzoured out last year that the only way to stay relevant is to give the awards to artists indie kids care about, so you can count on Dillwax taking home at least a couple.

Three - I am starting my own music awards show: the Horned Grammys.

I look forward to this. I think before you present the awards you should spend a few minutes saying why all the other nominees didnt win. There should also be lots of "Worst..." awards.

I've never paid attention to the grammys before, and I don't think I'll start now.

Yeah I was just wondering who gives shits about the Grammys?

I'm not saying I put any merit in the Grammys artistically but I do find them interesting just as a way to gauge the acceptance of certain artists into mainstream. Plus I just like award shows way too much. It's the same reason I'm on a message board dedicated to talking about the possible lineup for a music festival (or at least it was at one point)

Can you imagine a trophy that has the Horned Gramma on top and it cackles "Give your granny a kissy kissy!"? It would scare the shit out of most people :P

Nobody would want to win a Horned Grammy anyway. The implications are somehow far worse than what the statuette would look like, which I guarantee would absolutely be as horrifying as possible.
