I absolutely agree, and again I apologize for my misunderstanding. I just find it strange that certain people within a community that generally promote openness and acceptance will immediately file someone into a lower category because of their choices in music...of all things. Geno, I'm not trying to call you out specifically, because I know you're an awesome dude, but I just think statements like "because they don't know any better" is kind of lame. If I knew any better about food, I probably wouldn't be settling for this Lean Pocket I'm about to scarf down for lunch, but I guess I don't, and it's going to make me super happy, and I doubt my coworkers will give me shit for it :)
I'm not trying to be elitist, but from what I've seen, the majority of Mumford & Sons fans are casual music listeners who just gobble up whatever is playing on top 40 radio. I REALLY don't get them. Like, at all. All of their songs sound the same and they're overall just a bland band.

I'm going to try to listen to the new album though to see if it can change my opinion at all. I listened to the first single though and I was just astounded by how much it sounds like every one of their previous songs.

I wonder if there's one band that we can all agree on as being the shit. I don't think there is, but I'm willing to test the theory.

First guess: LCD Soundsystem. Who doesn't think they're the shit?
David Bowie. Nobody can hate David Bowie.

Good point. Not even on this board, but every person I've shown them to over the years has became at least a casual fan.

But once again, you are saying it like there is something wrong with being a casual music listener who focuses on top 40, and that people who consume music in that way's opinion isn't as valid as yours.

The beautiful thing about music is that it is completely and 100% objective. There is not right way or wrong way to do music.

Haha trust me Geno, your opinion won't be changed by the new album. There are about 6 songs right in a row that I seriously couldn't tell the difference between.

I actually had you in mind when I went on my original rant earlier, because I knew you and I shared that same belief.

Except I'm pretty sure you meant subjective ;)

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that the only reason most people seem to like Mumford & Sons is because they get constant radio play. No problem with them enjoying it, I just get annoyed by people who refuse to listen to anything aside from whatever the radio is churning out these days and then get mad at other people for not agreeing with their opinions.

Like my friend who only listens to hot topic metalcore and is probably one of the biggest music elitists I know. It's awful.
