Oh god damn it. I mean, I'm not surprised -- they averaged an album about every five years, and I've had the feeling for a long time De Jong wasn't happy with the direction their sound was taking.

The good news is that Nick Zammuto's new band -- Zammuto -- is just about ready to jump out of the gates. I've heard working demos of about half of the tracks on the Zammuto album and not only is it really, really fucking good but it also sounds an awful lot like the Books.

NOTHING can replace De Jong's cello work, but for the last two albums Zammuto has been the driving creative force behind the Books. I'm really, really sad about the Books breaking up but I am so incredibly fucking happy to have seen them and I'm extremely optimistic about what is to come.

From ZammutoSound.com:

Quote:
The new band is playing it’s first ever shows:

FEB 3: Mass Moca, North Adams, MA (Western Mass, our home town venue)

FEB 4: 92YTribeca, New York, NY (Downtown)

FEB 6: Brighton Music Hall, Allston, MA (Boston Area)

Don’t miss your chance to say you were there from the beginning! We’ll be playing mostly tracks from the upcoming Zammuto LP (out April 3 on Temporary Residence), along with some ‘Books’ songs, plus a few surprises. Before the set we will be screening ‘Achante‘, a short film about Haitian Vodou that we scored last year.

We will also be at SXSW in Austin in March, for the whole week, playing everyday.

‘Zammuto’ (the band) is a four piece rock set up: Nick Zammuto (yours truly on vocals, guitars), Gene Back (also from the Books, on electric guitar, organ, keys), Sean Dixon (Drums), and Mikey Zammuto (aka Mikeybass, on Bass). We just finished our second week of rehearsals and we’re all feeling giddy with excitement. As Mikey says, ” This will be Epic.”

I feel you on this. Nick's more straightforward songwriter style Books songs were becoming my favorites, and Idiom Wind is such a fucking good track.

So apparently Wayne Coyne is producing and co-writing Ke$ha's new album.

Not gunna lie I am pretty interested to see how this turns out. My bet is a restraining order.
