So it's obviously too early to create a best of the year list but I thought some of you might be up for trying something different. I thought it would be interesting to see how our tastes change throughout the course of the year by creating a list early on and then editing it over the year as you listen to more music. Hopefully a couple people are interested in trying this but if it's just me I'll entertain myself with it. Try and keep the conversation to a minimum for a little bit so that people can get their lists on the front page
1. The Weeknd – House of Balloons 2. Shabazz Palaces - Black Up 3. James Blake - James Blake 4. Braids - Native Speaker 5. chune-Yards – w h o k i l l 6. SBTRKT - Self Titled 7. Gil Scott Heron and Jamie XX - We're New Here 8. EMA - Past Life Martyred Saints 9. Yuck – Yuck 10. Main Attrakionz - 808's and Dark Grapes/Lil B - I'm Gay/Any rap Clams Casino produced 11. Real Estate - Days
HM: The Joy Formidable – The Big Roar, Burial + Four Tet + Thom Yorke, Frank Ocean - Nostalgia/ultra,Mark McGuire - A young persons guide to mark mcguire, The Antlers-Burst Apart, Fleet Foxes - Helpless Blues, Kurt Vile – Smoke Rings for my Halo, M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
edits:
4/26: originally list created, in the future I will list any changes here 4/29: I was reminded that Braids album came out this year (i was sure it was last year...) so that jumped into fourth place. pooped the joy formidable into honorable mention. Added Gil Scott Heron and Jamie XX to HM's because I heard a track from that last night and was reminded how good it is 5/12:I updated the list to 10 albums plus some honorable mentions so it's way different now. Shabazz Palaces, EMA, and Fleet Foxes all got added, Kurt Vile and Jamie XX got pooped into top 10. Mark McGuire, Frank Ocean, and Burial all got added to the HM's. 10/27: Added SBTRKT, Real Estate, buncha bay area rap, and m83

I love reading people's "best-of" lists! great idea to make and edit them as the year goes on; it will be really cool to see what albums actually have staying power to make it to end of the year and which albums make it and then get cut after excessive listening.
I've been listening to a lot of older music lately so I don't know very many albums from this year yet, but I just listened to The Joy Formidable yesterday and really enjoyed it too.
My really short start:
Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar The Kills - Blood Pressures The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Belong

well yeah it probably will be and I'd imagine it'll be high on my list when it leaks but until then...
p.s.: more people should post, I'd love to see what everyone else is listening to the most right now

No... I wish. I'm in Lewiston tonight. I'm warming up to Bright Eyes. There are several HM. Explosions in the Sky, Bright Eyes, Rene Hell, James Blake, The Weeknd...etc.
I'm looking forward to: White Denim (on of my fav bands ever), Washed Out, Tyler, the Creator,

Well, it's an evolving list so maybe Bright Eyes will work their way on there. I'm thinking about going to the Alley for the show tonight. Not sure yet.

damn good list. I imagine that Black Up and Burst Apart will end up on my list but I've been avoiding both since last I checked the leaks were still pretty low quality. I did listen to black up one time and it sounded fucking nuts. I really wasn't that thrilled with the battles album though...
