I am really loving the little bit of AMOK I've heard so far. A lot of In Rainbows and King of Limbs comparisons can be drawn, which is good or bad depending on the listener. I'm really not entirely sure what the point of this band is, though. I mean, it just sounds like fucking Radiohead.

HG: I know you're going to be anxious as fuck about getting back to PDX on Friday, so you and Storms are welcome to take my car whenever you get the itch on Friday morning. I plan on getting pretty ridiculous on Thursday night, so it's extremely unlikely that I will be out of bed before noon on Friday (or into bed before 6am on Friday for that matter).
The caveat- my insurance card is expired. I have insurance but my proof of insurance is expired- gotta request a new card.

I am just super-nervous about getting stuck in Friday afternoon traffic out of Seattle and not making it to Portland until like half an hour before the show. For one thing, I have to try to get in line as early as possible, but more importantly there is a HUGE contingent of people coming to the PDX show and we're all meeting at my house.
So, yeah; I'm gonna be getting fairly silly on Thursday night as well, but I'm going to try to rein it in to the point that I will be able to take you up on that, if I can.
I'm going to be anxious as fuck every step of the way. Fair warning to everyone: I get a little bit insufferable when I am in the same city as the Residents.

I never saw it coming, but this is like the best Cake album. I imagine not many people have heard what Cake sound like in 2011 with the addition of piano and synthesizers and reverb and pedal steel guitar. It's pretty fuckin' awesome.

Those are actually the reasons that I don't really like Showroom of Compassion. There's some alright songs on there, but the addition of all those instruments makes it kinda not sound like Cake. Also the way they mic'd McCrea makes him sound all hollow.

I think they did a brilliant job of incorporating all that cool new shit while still retaining the Cake sound, and those mic issues won't matter when he's rocking it all up in yo' fuckin' face.
There also seems to be more room for jamming on this one, which you know I will always favor.

Eh, I saw them on the Showroom tour; ultimately I was able to muster more enthusiasm for the tree ceremony than I was for most of the material from that album. And Cake could have all the room in the world for jamming, but unless it's 'Jolene' you're never going to see them play a song for more than four minutes. Nothing wrong with it, but for me Cake is one of those band whose albums got incrementally less satisfying from first to last.
I wonder if they're gonna do the tree thing at Sasquatch. Hope not; I'd hate to see Cake go down as the most hated set since the Flaming Lips in 2011.

Hmmm, well that sucks that they don't jam it out when they ought to, but I completely disagree with their albums getting incrementally less satisfying, and even if they do the tree thing -- which thy probably will -- I will love that shit just like I loved the Flaming Lips in 2011.

Akron/Family - Love is Simple
This is the only record I've listened to today. Over and over. And over. And over. And over. And over. And over again. I just keep flippin' these damn things. Sometimes I go in backwards order. Sometimes I'll listen to side 1 and then side 4 and it's like I'm warping through time. Sometimes I spin the needle in reverse and hear Satan. This isn't my usual style (listening to the same record all day, not time warps and Satan - those definitely are my style); I think the last time I listened to only one record for an entire day was the day In Rainbows was released.
Badchoices- you were asking for an Akron/Family recommendation. Definitely choose this one if you can find it.
