Hm. Well, I would give a whole day to the Mole Trilogy, if you're able. That's Mark of the Mole --> Intermission --> chunes of Two Cities --> The Big Bubble. You've probably heard one or two of those, but although Big Bubble is their most controversial record I think that consuming the Mole Trilogy as a whole is essential, and there are a couple of those titles that people seem to miss.
Our Finest Flowers is really neat; it's a 'greatest hits' album in true Residents fashion: rather than just dumping a bunch of classic chunes onto a disc, what they did was take the lyrics from one song, the melody from another, maybe a drum beat or a synth line from somewhere else, and mixed them all around. So what you end up hearing is simultaneously a brand new song as well as three or four older songs being played at the same time.
Lonely Teenager contains studio recordings of the versions of the songs -- culled from their entire career -- that they played on the Talking Light tour. It's a mean one. Incredible guitar work from Nolan Cook.
Burrito will tell you that WB:RMX is pretty fucking excellent; it is a re-mix of their first album The Warner Bros. Album, which has never been officially released.
Also listen to some of their live recordings, if you can. There are a lot of them; they are all incredible (obvi). Cube E, for fucking sure. The 13th Anniversary Show. Holy fuck that is some evil Residents shit.
And I know you listened to Animal Lover; that one tend to strike people in an uncomfortable way, but I can't recommend strongly enough giving it lots of quality time. Lots and lots. It is so different; very sad, very subdued. But next to Not Available, it is probably their best and most important record.
Oh, and listen to Not Available.
Definitely listen to their latest, Coochie Brake. It's wonderful.

Oh shit, and when you're ready for a challenge: God in 3 Persons. It's more of an epic poem than a music album; it is a very long and elaborate story that tries to comment on the notion of the holy trinity by representing the members of the godhead as a pair of conjoined twins with mystical healing powers and a washed up huckster who latches onto them and uses them for monetary gain. It gets pretty nasty; very violent, sexual, and sexually violent towards the end. It requires pretty close attention, it's not 'fun' in the way that some Residents records are, but it is a towering achievement.
Seriously, though, don't try your hand at that one unless you can sit down and do nothing but pay very close attention to it from beginning to end. Honestly, I encourage that approach to ALL of their albums -- if your attention is even slightly diverted, you will miss something important -- but it is particularly necessary with Gi3P.

LISTEN TO THIS MAN WHO LISTENS TO THESE RESIDENTS. I just listened to everything listed above throughout the voodoo hours and it's all quality jam. The Mole Trilogy will always be my favorite, though. I find that the live material is especially useful in perparing me for the show, because it is all over the fucking place and we really have know id yuh what the hell is going to go down on these stages.

I have about thirty seconds to make this post, so I'm going to go with traditional wisdom and say Duck Stab. I'm sure at least Geno will concur. It's not their best, and it's not my favorite, but it is the most low-impact entry point to a pretty massive career that there seems to be.
That's the short answer. There's a long answer that I have been meaning to type up for a couple of days now, but my thirty seconds is up, so watch for that. It's their 40th anniversary and they are touring soon and I am going to attempt a comprehensive mass education on the subject.

Duck Stab is my least favorite, which should logically make it the most popular favorite.
WB: RMX is my suggestion, but I ain't the Gramma. It's sonically charged for today's youth and contains my personal favorite vocal piece, which I feel is the most challenging aspect of the Residents.

I like the long musics more than the short musics. For this reason Commercial Album is actually my least favorite, but I'll take pretty much anything else over Duck Stab.

Duck Stab is way too easy. Its one of my least favorites as well.
WB:RMX is incredible, but one would come away from it with a very stunted impression of what they actually sound like. Technically it's not even a proper album, just something Chuck Bobuck did for a goof between projects.

Fingerprince? That one's a pretty good representation with all the classic elements.
