I wouldn't call them "lowest common denominator shit" but I agree that basically they suck, but i also think they make some enjoyable music. They're, at worst, a guilty pleasure. There's no arguing they were/are one of the biggest bands of the last 20 years, and that for alot of Sasquatchers they were a favourite growing up, especially in the PNW.

Right, and what you just described is the kind of act that has completely sunk more than one night at the Gorge for a lot of veteran Squatchers.

One of the biggest bands of the last 20 years = way too many drunk douchebags = NIN.

Favorite Growing Up for NW People = empty hillside/mainstage pit = Pavement

Suck but make Some Enjoyable Music = good reason to leave Monday afternoon = Ben Harper

For the sake of discussion -- and please, make disparaging comments about as many of these as you like -- here are some of the bands I'd like to see at Sasquatch 2011.

Bear in Heaven
Sleigh Bells
Black Dice
Cake
The Books
Clem Snide
Fiery Furnaces
Das Racist
Fuck Buttons
Major Lazer
Menomena
Philistines, Jr.
The Morning Benders
Snowglobe
Mice Parade
DOOM
Alexis Gideon

with headlining slots going to

Primus
Radiohead
Tom Waits

With the exception of Tom Waits, I don't feel like any of those are really out of the question and several of them are pretty likely.

yeah so? Really, I'm not the one to take this up with, because i could care less if Pearl Jam played Sasquatch. Would I watch them though? Yeah, why not? There were drunk douchebags at MMJ and Massive Attack too ("Teardrop! Fuck I can't wait for Fucking Teardrop! Fuck!"). I wasn't there last year, but I know people who weren't fans of Jane's Addiction who had a good time at their show. Same for NIN. Whether or not you like the band headlining is irrelevant in deciding if they're a good headliner. I'm sure (The Mighty Fucking) Ween was great, even for non-fans. If I didn't see Boys Noize I probably would've enjoyed their show too, even though I never listen to their music. I'd call them a good Headliner, even if I didn't see them or particularly like their music, because I know the majority of people really liked their set.

If you weren't there last year, you have no way of knowing how wrong you are. We can leave it at that.

Fair enough, though I wouldn't be surprised if next year you said the same thing about Pavement to the people who weren't there this year.

No way dude. Pavement sucked but that's just how Pavement is. Ask anyone. The average IQ of last year's crowd coupled with the intense heat made for way, way more shit-drunk assholes than ANYONE should have to deal with, ever.

It was a great festival though. And you know what, NIN was awesome. And Jane's Addiction was AWESOME. But fuck anyone who supports or seeks out that dynamic when the setting is Sasquatch. It's not right, it's not the Squatch vibe. You can't relax when a bunch of assholes in puka shell necklaces are having fist-Dr. Garbanzohts on/rolling down the hill or spraying you with cans of shitcreek lager. Or when Kings of Leon is playing.

Dude, you should look at going to another festival (there are so many that blow Sasquatch away). There are plenty with way better crowds than Sas and who will have probably more bands to your taste. Sasquatch is a lost cause if you're hoping it's going to get less drunk assholes and plenty of decent indie bands that aren't featured in car commercials. Don't wait on Sasquatch, cuz it aint happening, it is what it is and hoping for more will just be serious disappointment

well back on topic, Beck covering some album with about 20 different notable guest stars since that seems to be his thing lately.

Yeah, we did that one.

For the record, I was seriously asking. I consider Pearl Jam to be strictly lowest common denominator shit and I'm amazed that the same people that I've seen bitching about having Jane's Addiction headline are supporting Pearl Jam.

I would like you to respond to my most recent post.

My response is that I remember a time when Pearl Jam was on the State Fair circuit. The Papa Roach/Third Eye Blind/Weird Al circuit. Pearl Jam used to have to play in venues where people had no choice but to hear them perform.

And now here we are six or seven years later. And time, as they say, lends respectability to whores and ugly buildings. Pearl Jam is playing the same songs that I hated when they were on the radio when I was thirteen, and the same songs that came with the price of a ticket to a bunch of carnival rides and homemade preserve competitions when I was twenty. I pay out my asshole for Sasquatch, and it is basically my one vacation-like enterprise in the calendar year. So given the choice, I'll take Weird Al and the preserves, thank you.

I'm familiar with the Lady Gaga rule. Pearl Jam absolutely do not qualify.

You're talking to a Squatcher from the day, sister. I know what Sasquatch "is". For example, I know that due to the size of the venue, the nature of the crowd is strongly determined by the headlining acts. Last year: way drunk people. This year: way kids on Ecstasy. It obviously works that way. It's charming.

I know that there are larger, more diverse festivals. I'm not interested in them. Sasquatch is like Disneyland. It has something that nothing/nowhere/no one else has. It's just SASQUATCH. We don't go to Squatch to satisfy the need to go to any old music festival. We come for the Sasquatch magic. The crowd and venue are manageable sizes, the weather is generally not extreme, etc.

Basically what I mean is, don't be condescending. KnowIDyuh may talk about me like I'm mildly retarded but I'm actually not.
