From what they said, they were simply a part-time band that realeased pumped up kicks on their myspace page, and it got enough hits from the right people that it reached a tipping point (thanks Malcolm Gladwell). They started seeing more and more people that they didn't know coming to their shows, and so they thought if they were to make a run for it, they'd better start practising more.
So, I knew they were not going to live up to the hype that was caused by pumped up kicks. They have not been around long enough to really hazve their shit together yet. But I do not think it has much to do with their Major Label (or at least it didnt in the beginning). |

"Top 5" is such a stupid number. Out of 80+ artists I think at the very least a top 10 list is more than acceptable.
AND YES I SPENT MOST OF MY TIME WATCHING EDM AND DANCE ARTISTS BECAUSE I WAS DRUNK, HIGH, AND DANCING ALL WEEKEND. SHOVE IT.
1. Bassnectar 2. Skrillex 3. Major Lazer 4. MSTRKRFT 5. Flogging Molly 6. Chromeo 7. Matt & Kim 8. Robyn 9. Gayngs 10. The Head and the Heart
Runner ups go to Sharon Van Etton, Macklemore, and DFA1979. The Glitch Mob would probably easily be in my top 10 if I could remember their damn set

I dunno. I was pretty underwhelmed by Glitch Mob's set.
Kudos for being able to piece together a top ten list, though. I saw WAY more amazing sets this year than I ever thought I would and my dry ol' brain could probably only work out a top seven at best. Is it possible that I was even more fucked up than Pea? (in all seriousness, yes, it is entirely possible).

I got pretty silly this year. I haven't eaten that much high drugs since I was like twenty-four.

I can only clearly remember one or two songs from each set I saw. It's really strange to me because up until recently I've been sober at all concerts and able to repeat the setlist to people who ask. I just need to find a happy medium and I'll be good to go.

That's a bummer. Everyone I talked to loved their set. I only know I saw them because I have photographic proof haha.
It's definitely possible that you were more fucked up than me, I just have a very outward and obnoxious way of showing it when I'm in a no-holds-barred environment like that. And yea, for a lineup that I wasn't too excited about, I enjoyed the ever loving shit out of just about every artist I caught! Ahhhh what a great Sasquatch

Ain't it the fuckin' truth, though? I was NOT enthusiastic about the lineup this year, but I saw more awesome performances than I have ANY year, including 2010. And they were awesome performances from artists that I would have NEVER seen otherwise. Fuckin' Foo Dr. Garbanzohters, how do they work?

2010 was a dream lineup for me. HG, you preferred 2011 over 2010, huh?

2010 was THE dream lineup. I can't imagine any festival ever having a better lineup than Squatch '10. The lineup this year was fucking balls in comparison, but somehow I managed to have more fun. I can't explain it.

Mostly had to do with the people this year. Mostly had to do with this fucking board and all you rascals. I really do love you all. Bummed I didn't get to meet you, esrever. I wouldn't even have known how to find you. Next time, huh?

Definitely next time for sure! I agree with you completely that this year seemed to be a bigger/better/faster party over last year due to all the awesome amount of people that came out. But 2010 was....well....in a class by itself and is probably so high on it's own pedestal it will never be touched again. I don't even know how you would top it other than getting the same lineup only with 2011's new additions.

I got to see my two favorite bands at the gorge in 2010 so that was pretty fucking wonderful. But I agree that I had more balls out fun this year and I saw a lot of really great music. I think my expectations were low since I was not as crazy about the lineup, but I was impressed.

Man, it seems !!! must've done something right in the past few years. I saw them in 2008 at Pitchfork and remember it being way too annoying and having to leave after a few songs cause I just couldn't take it. I guess that's changed?
