After only being familiar with White Pepper and Quebec (amazing) I decided there is no better time than now to jump headfirst into Ween's back catalogue. Man those two dudes make some of the fucked up music I have ver heard...and yet some of the most interesting and compelling. Can't wait to see how they stack up live.

I really hope they play stuff from Whiet Pepper and Quebec though...Bananas and Blow, Transdermal Celebration and Hey There Fancy Pants would be spectacular!

Ween has grown in different ways between studio recording and live. as an absolutely bonkers ween fan (I have the Boognish tattooed on my arm) I have also been listening to them since I was in the seventh grade which was long ago. I truly think this is one of the most important bands of our time, they encompass so much about so many different things and the best part about them is you can take from it whatever you want but at the end of the day they will leave you with nothing but smiles. Ween is so well rounded that whatever they do will be mind bending and fantastic, Dean Ween can shred like no other and the whole band behind those two is nothing short of amazing.. They are a perfect end to this festival and not to mention so deserving of the headlining spot.. imo

first off i'd like to say that Ween ROCKS and that they are a supreme choice to close a festival w/ a fairly impressive lineup. a nice change from the lame bumbershoots of the last few years.

for those of you on the thread who haven't heard much Ween and are looking to check 'em out i do have a couple of points:

1. they are WAY different live than studio. especially when it comes to their older material. for example, check out these two versions of the early Ween song She Fucks Me:

studio (from the album The Pod):

live (chicago 2003):

I wouldn't judge them based only on their studio stuff or you are jumping the gun.

2. Their recent albums (by I which mean pretty much everything from Chocolate and Cheese forward) demonstrate astounding range (both across genres and through a blend of goofy fun with serious musical composition). A few uninformed idiots tend to think of these guys as a novelty act. Don't be naive. These guys can write songs and rock out with the best of them.

^ 100% agree with you about the more recent albums. I am not a massive Ween fan by any means but I love their more recent stuff as it is a bit more "rock" based. Quebec and White Pepper have some serious rock n' roll between the two (The Grobe, Gonna Be a Long Night, Transdermal Celebration, Stroker Ace, I Don't Want It). The older stuff is pretty odd though, but I cannot wait to see how it comes across live. Truly Excited!

if you like their harder rocking stuff (all the chunes you mentioned are good examples) expect to hear a bunch of it. they tend to play their more rowdy chunes live for sure. the example (She Fuck Me) i posted above is actually not something they play at gigs very often. just a good example of how the band has evolved. i don't expect any acoustic chunes at sasquatch.

Thanks for the info and the great videos. They definately show how different they are from album to a live setting. I like that they "sing" without that strange distortion they have on their albums, as in the Mutilated Lips video. The more I listen to them and read on this message board the more excited I am to see them. They are rapidly becoming one of my #1 "can't wait to see them" bands!
