Granted I haven't gotten to hear many of the others, but "Easy Beat" (the album) by Dr. Dog is amazing.

Used to be into Camera Obscura quite a bit so this will be a good excuse to re-listen and get back into them. I've been impressed by Kid Cudi, The XX and Neon Indian and distinctly unimpressed by The Dirty Projectors. I know a lot of people are into them and I've tried hard, I just can't get into it. Beyond this though my biggest discovery has been Japandroids.

Just listened to Oh my God, Charlie Darwin. People, do not sleep on The Low Anthem.

There's alot going on in that album. As soon as you think they have a certain mellow flow to the songs they completely throw a curve ball and start playing angry folk in the style of Tom Waits.

[and distinctly unimpressed by The Dirty Projectors. I know a lot of people are into them and I've tried hard, I just can't get into it.]
I couldn't agree more! I saw them open for TV on the Radio and wasn't impressed, gave the CD a spin given the huge hype and that's all I think it is...pure hype. But to each their own.
Now, The Long Winters are a band that I get more and more excited to see each time I listen to their album. Great lyrics, punchy music and the vocalist has a very unique style. Up next on my Sasquatch journey is She & Him, followed by The Low Anthem.

I won't try to pull all this Dirty Projectors propaganda on you guys, but just remember that each one of their albums sounds way different from the other. If Bitte Orca, you should give Rise Above a try (an album reimagining [not covering] Black Flag songs), the New Attitude EP, and earlier you get even more diverse.
Though, at the same time, I'd venture to say, if you don't like Bitte Orca, you probably have a less likely chance of liking the other stuff. The Bitte Orca stuff is definitely the most accessible stuff of theirs.

Rise Above was an interesting concept but it just didn't jive with me. I appreciate your input though. I would never say that they are not a bad band it's just not something that grew on me over time, and I gave Bitte Orca a couple of listens.
Just finished She & Him Volume One and while I thought it was a great album I can't see them being an overly great festival band (and yes I know they're on the circuit). To me they would be damn near perfect in a concert theatre setting or smoky club...but not at a festival.

Their "re-imagining" of Rise Above is exactly the reason I will never listen to the Dirty Projectors.

Also check out Z and the live dvd/cd Okonokos. Their newest album, Evil Urges is not as consistently good as It still Moves or Z, but they will probably be playing a bunch of songs off of it, so you should check that out too.

I decided to give Evil Urges another try the other day after not listening to it for a few months and I must say something about it finally clicked with me. I'm really enjoying that album now. But yea, Z and Okonokos are top-priorities for a new MMJ listener.

If you can pinpoint what clicked, please let me know. I start listening to the album, get to "peanut butter puddin' surprise," and shut it off as I shudder.
