This will be my 8th time at a REM gig. I'm also a big cure fan although this will be my 2nd time seeing them.
The Kooks! I'm a brit so looking forward to them.I do hope the Decemberists are there, one of my favourite bands. The great thing about Sasquatch is always the ability to see (and dig) someone new. I was at the 06 Sasq...what a riot.
I emailed Zia today from the Dandy Warhols (name drop) they won't be there however look out for Zia in the crowd she's going!
MGMT canceled Pemberton today .. but as Pemberton MUST be having an impact on Sasquatch ticket sales I'd expect one (maybe two) big names to be added. This to boost ticket sales nearer the date.
Just my 2 cents worth.

bands I have seen PUSA- they are awesome live and usually have good encores DCFC- when I saw them it was lame and depressing not exciting from the crowd or the stage Blue Scholars- An incredible group, I have seen them live many times and would see them a hundred more times. Michael Franti & Spearhead- So good live, they will make the crowd go crazy. Ozomatli- I think they would normally be good live but when I saw them the sound was messed up and the main guy got in a Dr. Garbanzoht with someone in the crowd... which thinking back would be interesting but I was pretty young. Dengue Fever- They were fun to watch and the crowd gets into it. Cancer Rising- They are good, the show isn't that crazy usually but still good.
Bands I want to see M.I.A. Ghostland -I have a feeling these bands will be just crazy dance parties. Flaming lips-I can't wait for this show I have heard its amazing. The Hives- Should be good, I have wanted to see them for years.

Modest Mouse is always hit or miss. Either Isaac Brock is too drunk, sloppy and pissy; too sober and totally dead; or just right so you have a 1 out of 3 chance. I've seen them six times over a ten year period and only twice were they spot on so that's about right.

I just saw death cab last week, playing new stuff from their album, old stuff, good stuff. Ive seen them several times and have never been disappointed. they always put on a rad show. They played with the cave singers who had so much energy. they are definitly worth catching if you guys havent heard them-they play crazy things, like stools! i also saw tegan and sara which were good but boy do they talk a lot inbetween sets, i dont know if its because it was such a small venue or what but they do talk it up. I saw the kooks last year at coachella and they are so fun to dance too! cold war kids and mates of state were also fun to see live. i cant wait!

Would a fan of live music who attended a Death Cab show with a neutral opinion of the band think the show was great? I think this band is the biggest hit or miss I have read about. "they are great" or "they suck" is about 50/50. I like the band, but found them very boring live at Sasquatch 06. Then again, maybe they are as good as those who say they are when playing in a small(er) venue. I wouldn't know though, for a NW band, they sure don't like playing in Portland.

Until recently I would have told you yes, a person who likes live music and is neutral towards them would like DCFC, but I have spent a lot of time on multiple message boards and it seems that there are a lot of people who hate Death Cab for Cutie or think they are boring or they suck or whatever, every time I read a bad review I am shocked and actually kind of hurt because of how much I like them. These people must be hearing and seeing something that I am not. Now, I could see where someone who is big into arena rock might think they were boring or if someone is not into that type of music not liking them, but in my (bias) opinion they are a great live band. I have been following them since their first tour in 1998 and they have always put on solid shows wherever they play. For instance their show at Sasquatch! in 06' was one of my favorites...... I think what has happened is most people have only heard say three or four songs of Death Cab: the Sound of Settling, I Will Follow You Into the Dark, Soul Meets Body and maybe one or two others. In my opinion Plans is their weakest album because it is the most safe, probably a need for them transitioning from a small to a big label. I hope the new album will stop some of the naysayers, I guess time will tell. People need to check out their earlier albums to see where they came from to really appreciate them and not write them off as another wussy emo/pop band or whatever they are saying. Remember they had four solid albums before transitioning to a big label, but they were offered contracts way back only an album or two in and rejected it until the time was right meaning they proved themselves and had more control over their music..........

I'm not gonna talk too much shit, because I was on the other side of the polo fields watching Hot Chip, but I heard that Death Cab's set at Coachella this year went over like a stale fart. Even a lot of the hardcore fans I spoke with said it was the worst headlining performance they'd ever seen at Coachella. Ben Gibbard set the tone for their reception when he insulted Roger Waters in an interview he did with Spin magazine a month before the show (he said that Roger Waters performing Dark Side of the Moon was the equivalent of Ringo Starr performing Sgt. Pepper), and I heard that his stage banter went from awkward to down-right insulting (apparently he addressed the crowd by announcing "Hello Bonnaroo" to massive boos and crickets chirping.) So maybe Ben will exercise a bit of prudence in the next month before the show at not insult any of Sasquatch's other headliners who are infinitely more talented than him. Maybe he'll walk onto stage and address the festival by its proper name. And let's all pray that he makes it back into the studio soon. UPS will be needing a new song for all their hilarious white-board commercials, and the next incarnation of the O.C. will need plenty of trite romantic swill to get their little panties all moist. Hopefully Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks will be playing on the second stage during Death Cab's set, otherwise I may have to wad up a bunch of napkins, cram them in my ears and find nice patch of grass to nap for an hour. Here's hoping

And Dustin, if you just read my last post, i'm sure I hurt your feelings. And I apologize. But Gibbard's not talented enough to be trashing the mastermind of Pink Floyd less than a month before sharing a stage with him. And btw, Roger Waters killed it. Maybe the best show I've ever seen. I heard he's a real dick too, but when you're a genius you can pass that off as eccentricity. I don't think Ben Gibbard has that luxury. I genuinely hope Death Cab turn in a killer set, even if I won't be there. They're a big hit with the ladies, and we need the girls in high spirits all weekend.

Thank you Bobert, you have helped me finally Dr. Garbanzoure out the mystique that is the Death Cab For Cutie live show. They appeal to chicks. Not sure why I didn't Dr. Garbanzoure this out before, but this explains the disparity between how great their live shows are. (sorry to offend any frat boys, by saying Death Cab appeals to chicks, I was including you guys too).
What other artists/bands do frat boys, I mean chicks, love. Jack Johnson, Cold War Kids, Incubus, Ben Harper.
If you own multiple albums of the aforementioned grouping, come see me at the campsite. We will have white wine spritzers, Boones, and Purple Passion, plus we will be pooping Spice Girls and Justin Timberlake all day.

The disparity between their live shows and what, their recordings? Their own opinions of themselves? I can't tell if you're agreeing with me, being incredibly sarcastic, or both.

I had mentioned previously that from what I have read on-line, this band is the biggest hit or miss as far as how their live shows are. I said I have either read "they suck" or "they are awesome." That is the disparity I was referring to. I am betting more of the "they rule" posts were by females. If I came off sounding incredibly sarcastic, it is probably because I am.
At the same time, I do realize that referring to my own comments in a previous post does nothing more than confuse people with short attention spans. I will strive to remedy this dilemma in the future.

Fret not, my friend, I'm a fan of sarcasm myself. Everyone is so polite and mild mannered on this board that I was having trouble judging the tone of your comments, even though I was pretty sure you agreed with me. I'll be on the look-out for your white-wine spritzer soire - sounds delicious
