It is not the quality of a band's show/music that makes a headliner, it's their ability to attract a wide audience. I've been to plenty of festivals where the headliners are far from being the most talented of the lineup. I saw part of KOL's set at Bonnaroo in 2007 (where they were billed nineteenth) they were quite good, but I just don't see how they would be put in a headliner spot at this point. |

Joke post, or do you really not realize that this band's career might have changed over the course of two years? You must be a joke poster.

Just because I mentioned they were billed nineteenth at Bonnaroo in 2007? Everything else I said applies to the present, and has nothing to do with the show I saw. I'm sure they have grown plenty since then, but I do have a hard time believing their one release since was epic enough to revolutionize their careers. I'm not trying to hate on KOL, I like them. I just don't see them as a headliner, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone else was announced to headline Saturday.

i know i originally posted this asking about KOL, and though i would like to see someone above them on saturday, now that i think about it I would much rather the final headliner of the weekend to be changed, not that I have beef with ben harper, I just think hes not the optimal close to this festival , I will personally be going home early if that doesnt change, in fact I will be going home really early because i really have no interest in erykah badu either. And i do agree with t18401, though that show he saw was 2 years ago, have KOL really done anything that special to warrant a headline spot?

i too don't understand what KOL have done in the past couple years to warrant a headlining slot at a major festival. their most recent record is decent, but not the kind of thing that catapults a band from middle of the lineup to headliners.

So I got an email from a LiveNation rep about their VIP package and I told the guy I really didn't like 2 of the 3 headliners and I'd never heard of Kings of Leon.

From Nashville, sell out arenas and stadiums overseas and are finally doing the same here in the states off their last (4th) record release. Think Dylan meets Pearl Jam. In fact they've been the opening band for U2, Pearl Jam and Dylan in the past 4 years. |

the hard sell but honest to god, I still have no idea who they are.

I for one am thrlled to see them headlining the 1st night. For those of you who haven't heard them, let alone seen them live, you won't forget them after that Saturday night. Phenomonal band.

Well, it looks like they are headlining Lollapalooza and ACL. I guess 2009 is the year for KOL. Caught me by surprise.
I am happy that they added Mos Def for Saturday. Not hating on KOL, just glad that there is a little more variety for Saturday.

Honestly, LiveNation wouldn't put them in a headlining spot if they didn't think they could sell. It's not like it's a retarded company running this.

I had a chance to see them while I was in Seattle last year I think they played the wamu theater and didnt sell it out, I was kind of on the boarder with them. I stated listening to their newest album and I really like pretty much all the songs on it. I'm glad to see them headlining.
