I was just pointing out that the Ticketmaster/Livenation angle doesn't seem to be the dealbreaker it once was for them.

I didn't know about Soundgarden, but they could always give Irons a call again. :)

I was waiting for it. I told a colleague at work about this story the other day. We had a grand old time making fun of lil Conor Oberst.

How'd the chant work out anyway? I never made it over to the mainstage to shout WKD just so I could say I did.

I'll go to bat for you on this one. The Ticketmaster thing is completely irrelevant nowadays since all of their Canadian tours (and some U.S. tours) from the last 10 years have been sold through Ticketmaster. Added to that, they haven't toured the U.S. in a couple of years, they are coming off of a 20th anniversary run, they apparently have a new album coming out in the summer, they love the Gorge and haven't played there in quite some time. They also have a tendency to prepare for European summer tours by playing a warm up show or two (see the 2009 Virgin Fest in Calgary).

There is still a possibility that Pearl Jam could play the Friday night. Soundgarden play in Europe starting on May 27, so if they play Sasquatch on May 25 that gives Matt Cameron plenty of time to get to the show on the 27th. It's all speculation and a long shot, but still reasonable.

Didn't happen. By the time Conor took the stage I had discovered that I liked Switch too well to go through with it.

...also, if I'd gone through with it I would have missed the part of Robyn's set where she ate that banana.

I'm not going to Dr. Garbanzoht this one to the death because I don't know enough about Ticketmaster's involvement with Canadian venues. I stated my opinion on the blog, and I'll state it again here for clarification.

There is a difference between playing a venue that ticketmaster sells the tickets for, and playing a venue ticketmaster runs. You can't get away from ticketmaster, so refusing to play a venue ticketmaster sells the tickets for is refusing to play entire regions of the continent, and that is not fair to your fans. The Gorge is run by LiveNation, who merged with Ticketmaster. Therefore, Ticketmaster runs the Gorge. It isn't about simply selling their tickets.

Pearl Jam spent a lot of time and money on the Ticketmaster lawsuit. Who cares if it was a long time ago, you don't think there are any hard feelings? Do you think Pearl Jam is going to just say, "You know what, we were young and stupid back then, turns out, you're not such a bad dude after all. Let's get lunch." I don't care if 50 years roll by, as long as ticketmaster is still bending over everyone involved in the music industry, Pearl Jam isn't going to gladly turn their head and cough.

Who actually supports ticketmaster, show of hands please? We deal with it because we have to, and so does much of the music industry. If your favorite venue gives you the choice of buying tickets from them, or from ticketmaster, virtually everyone on the planet is going against ticketmaster. In general, none of us have this option, we are forced to buy from ticketmaster, and bands are forced to have their tickets sold by ticketmaster.

Pearl Jam is from Seattle, they were one of the bands who defined the Seattle grunge music scene. Everything about that band screams NW. So where would the logical place to play their 20th anniversary be?

Wisconsin. You don't find that odd at all?

Nah, I caught the first 30 minutes of Bright Eyes, and still waited 20 minutes for Robyn to start. I was going to yell WKD, but I was in the pit surrounded by people completely obsessed by Conor, and everyone was talking about him as a god-like Dr. Garbanzoure between songs. It was precious actually. I didn't have it in my heart to heckle at that point. It would have been like yelling at a bunch of old women with walkers that they are too slow to catch me.

newjersey on the other hand, did yell it out at the end of a song at Oshega (I think?) and has the video footage to prove it.

As with you Know, I am not willing to get into a long debate or argument about this, because in the end...no one really knows. I will admit that I did not realize that there was difference between Ticketmaster selling for an event and Ticketmaster running an event (and I did read your blog), so thank you for pointing that out clearly. It makes much more sense now. I guess that being a very big fan of this band for many years I still have it in my mind that one of these days they may play Sasquatch, or I may in fact see them at The Gorge.

I just thought that, other than the Ticketmaster side of things, it was logistical that they might play and was attempting to make a point.

In the end, I will agree with you on one thing for sure...playing Wisconsin, when you're from Seattle, for your 20th anniversary seemed to be a bit fucked, very strange and highly disappointing.

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers (headliner)
2. Bon Iver (headliner)
3. The Shins (headliner)
4. New Order (headliner)
5. Naked and Famous
6. The Sheepdogs
7. Youth Lagoon
8. The War On Drugs
9. Pretty Lights
10. Childish Gambino
11. Real Estate
12. Grouplove
13. Built to Spill
14. Wiz Khalifa
15. Islands
16. coeur de pirate
17. Girls
18. Girl Talk
19. Zola Jesus
20. Beirut
21. fun.

As far as headliners are concerned - I was damn certain The Black Keys would be headlining until those latest tour dates came out. They really threw me for a loop, so I thought I might as well replace them with something unexpected, especially since my other headliner guesses seem so predictable and boring. Also, I do think there's a good chance that we'll get an EDM headliner this year but I just couldn't bring myself to put down deadmau5.

I'm actually kind of glad that we know nothing about the lineup. Part of the reason why the Coachella lineup was kinda underwhelming for me is that everyone on the Coachella boards predicted most of the bands.

I agree. While I'm happy with the Coachella lineup, when I first saw it nothing shocked me so I didn't get that initial rush of excitement. I'm really looking forward to that with the Sasquatch one though.
